Large tulip bouquets: where the size actually comes from
The word large in a tulip listing covers three separate variables, and confusing them is why an order sometimes arrives smaller or bulkier than expected.
Size here is a product of stem count, stem length and variety type. All three work independently, and the same number of stems can produce completely different volumes.
The three components
Worth taking in order, since usually only the first one gets specified.
Count sets the diameter. Twenty five stems reach around twenty eight centimetres, fifty one around forty.
Stem length sets the height and the character. Tulips run from thirty to seventy centimetres. Short stems give a dense low arrangement, long ones a loose vertical shape that occupies far more space at the same count.
Variety type sets the density. Double and parrot forms open wider than singles, so fifteen of them fill the volume of twenty five ordinary stems.
Questions worth asking
Three of them remove nearly all the gap between the photograph and the delivery.
- What stem length is in this batch.
- Single varieties or doubles.
- What stage the buds are at right now.
The last matters most on large orders. Fifty open tulips and fifty closed ones are visually two different gifts, and the price difference between them is usually nil.
Packaging is worth confirming too. A big armful in a tight cone arrives creased. It wants an open frame with a collar around the heads.
Measure a large tulip bouquet by whether it fits through the door and into a vase, not by the number on the label.
Where it stands
Large bouquets need a container with a wide neck and a heavy base. An ordinary household vase cannot manage the volume, and the outer stems push their way out of it.
Water stays shallow even in a large vase. Five centimetres is plenty, and deeper water softens the stems.
Splitting the bunch into two arrangements is a reasonable outcome when nothing of the right size exists. Tulips are indifferent to being divided.
For delivery in Bucharest, confirm the dimensions and the method in advance. A large armful will not fit a standard box and needs space in the passenger compartment.
JFLOO lists large tulip bouquets as their own option. Specify stem length and variety type alongside the count. Without those, the word large describes far too many possible outcomes.
