150 cm roses: when the length earns its price
Most bouquets at this height are cut down within a day of arriving. That is simply what happens when a metre and a half of stem meets an ordinary flat, and it is worth knowing before you order rather than after.
The length buys you a moment.
Consider what the recipient actually has at home. A vase tall enough to hold these stems upright is a piece of furniture, not something kept in a cupboard, and without one the bunch either leans against a wall or gets shortened that evening. Water is the other half of it, since a stem this long has to lift water much further and softens under the head sooner, so the first trim comes early anyway. By the end of the week the bouquet is standard height. Every tall bouquet arrives at that point eventually.
The real question is whether the first hours justify the difference in price. Sometimes they plainly do.
Where the full height works
A stage handover is the clearest case. The bouquet has to read from the back of a hall, it is held for less than a minute, and nobody has to look after it afterwards. A shop window is the same problem with more time attached, and a photograph is the same problem with less.
Large public presentations run on the same logic. The recipient is standing, an audience is watching, and the physical size of the object is part of what is being said. A shorter bunch in that setting looks like a smaller gesture whatever it actually cost.
Where a shorter grade is the better order
A hospital room, a small flat, a restaurant table, a desk in an office. In all of these the height works against the flowers: there is nowhere to stand them, the recipient has to get them home on public transport or across the back seat of a car, and the first thing that happens is a pair of scissors. Two people are needed to move the bunch through a doorway without catching the outer heads. None of that is a fault of the flowers. It is a mismatch between the format and the room it was sent to.
If you want more flower rather than more height, put the money into the count or the head grade. The same budget buys noticeably more blooms at a shorter length.
There is also a middle option that customers rarely ask about. A shorter stem in a tall narrow vessel gives much of the same vertical line without the handling problem, and the arrangement holds that shape for its whole life. Florists suggest this more often than they are taken up on it.
One question settles most orders at this height. Ask whether anyone will be there to receive the bouquet properly, because a bunch of this length cannot be left with a neighbour, propped in a stairwell or laid on its side for an hour without damage. If the answer is no, the height becomes a liability. A recipient in Bucharest who is out at work all day is better served by something that survives a wait.
150 cm roses have a clear place, and it is nearly always a public one. Matched to the right occasion, the height does something no shorter grade manages. For a quiet evening at home the shorter grades do the same job with far less trouble.
