Balloon fountains: the bunch engineered to stand on the floor
A fountain is a set of helium balloons on ribbons of deliberately different lengths, anchored to a weight. The balloons spread upward at staggered heights and form a three dimensional shape that stands on a floor or a table with nothing holding it from above.
The ribbons are the entire difference between a fountain and an ordinary bunch. Equal lengths give a flat cluster. Staggered lengths build a cone that reads from every angle in the room.
Where the height comes from
Three things set the size: the longest ribbon, the spacing between ribbons, and the weight at the bottom.
- A table fountain usually stands eighty centimetres to a metre tall.
- A floor fountain is built between a metre and a half and two and a half metres.
- Neighbouring ribbons differ by twenty to thirty centimetres. Any less and the balloons merge into one mass.
The anchor is matched to the lift, not chosen for looks. Fifteen latex balloons pull hard, and a decorative little box on the end of the ribbon will travel to the ceiling with them.
How many balloons
Density matters more than the count. A sparse fountain of seven looks unfinished. A tight one of fifteen reads as a single object.
The proportions that work: fifteen balloons fill a table format, twenty five build a floor arrangement, forty and above belong to dressing a venue.
Colour follows a two plus one rule. Two base shades and one accent, often chrome or a confetti balloon. Five equal colours in one fountain turn into visual noise.
Judge a fountain by whether it fills the corner of the room, not by the number of balloons in it.
Placement and lifespan
A fountain needs space around it. Pushed against a wall it loses half its volume, because the rear ribbons flatten against the surface.
Lifespan depends on the material. Untreated latex holds for roughly eight to twelve hours, which is why latex fountains are built on the day of the event. Arrangements including foil elements survive overnight comfortably.
Air conditioning and an open window drag the fountain sideways and tangle the ribbons. A weight also sits less securely on carpet than on a hard floor, and an hour is usually enough to demonstrate that.
For a fountain travelling across Dushanbe assembled, check the vehicle. A two metre arrangement does not fold or compress, and it rides upright in the passenger compartment.
JFLOO lists balloon fountains separately from single balloons. Start with height and placement. A fountain for a two metre seventy ceiling and one for a three metre ceiling are different orders.
