Peonies with delivery in Yerevan: varieties, local greenhouses, and a short spring season

The peony needs no explanation. A full, globe-shaped bud, dense layers of petals, a light honey scent — that's enough for a bouquet to speak without a label. In Yerevan it's chosen when the occasion matters: a wedding, an anniversary, a graduation. Not to tick a box, but when the bouquet should say something on its own.

The category covers single-variety bouquets from 9 to 51 stems, mixed arrangements with roses, lisianthus, and eucalyptus, and hatbox formats for wedding and corporate orders. Unlike the rose, the peony is an honest seasonal flower. The main cut comes from the greenhouses of the Ararat Valley in spring and early summer; off-season, the catalogue is supplemented by imports that arrive through Zvartnots and reach florists via the city flower market.

Which varieties to choose

Each variety solves its own task — from a classic romantic bouquet to a complex wedding arrangement. They differ in bud form, palette, fragrance, and vase life.

  • Sarah Bernhardt — soft pink-salmon double bloom, sustained fragrance. One of the most recognised wedding varieties in the world, the default request for ceremonies.
  • Coral Charm — coral shifting to peach as it opens. Strong in contemporary compositions.
  • Karl Rosenfield — deep raspberry-red, dense bud, intense fragrance. The classic choice for anniversary bouquets.
  • Festiva Maxima — white with a crimson fleck at the centre. The most photogenic white peony, a wedding-floristry classic.
  • Duchesse de Nemours — pure white with a cream centre, light scent. A natural for bridal bouquets and white ceremonial work.
  • ITO hybrids (Bartzella, Cora Louise) — a cross of herbaceous and tree peony, blooming larger and longer than the usual sorts.

The bud stage and why it matters

The main rule when buying peonies is the "marshmallow" stage. That's a coloured but still soft bud about the size of a walnut. If it springs back slightly under your fingers, it will open in 1–2 days and last 7–9. A hard, green bud may never open; a fully open one lasts 2–3 days at most.

Every consignment is hand-checked by a florist against this criterion. Only "marshmallow" buds of the right firmness go into shipping — so the recipient sees the full bloom cycle, not the final stage. If you need open peonies for a specific date, tell us when you order and we'll select a lot with the right lead time.

Occasions and season

The peony's natural season in Armenia is spring and early summer, mainly May and June. In these weeks the market is full of local cut from the Ararat Valley: the freshest and most affordable peony of the year. It overlaps with wedding season, the Last Bell, and graduations — the peony traditionally goes into both the bridal bouquet and the table décor.

Armenia's main flower peaks — 8 March, Valentine's Day on 14 February, and the Day of Motherhood and Beauty on 7 April — fall in months when the local peony isn't out yet. Those dates rely on imports, which are pricier and less predictable. The peony's real moment in Yerevan is the spring-to-summer window. By Armenian tradition, an odd number of stems is given for joyful occasions — worth keeping in mind when you order.

"Peonies don't forgive haste. If you want to impress, order 3–4 days ahead and let the bud open at the recipient's home. And remember: this is a seasonal flower — outside spring there's honestly almost none. A fresh closed peony from the valley greenhouses beats an import lot tired after a week on the road."

Wedding bouquet of peonies and eucalyptus for the Kentron and Arabkir districts of Yerevan

Delivery specifics

Yerevan has a sharply continental climate. Summers are dry and hot, +33–40°C in July and August; winters are cold, around 0 to −5°C and lower in frosts. For the peony the main risk is the dry heat of the late cut — hot air accelerates petal drop. We build event consignments with the forecast in mind and hold flowers in cold storage at +4…+6°C until assembly.

We deliver peonies across all districts of Yerevan: Kentron, Arabkir, Ajapnyak, Davtashen, Nor Nork, Shengavit, Malatia-Sebastia, Avan, and Erebuni. Prices in the catalogue are in Armenian dram (AMD, ֏), payment by card online. The season is short, so for weddings and graduations place your order 3–5 days ahead — peak dates are reserved early.

Care at home

Closed-bud peonies keep at +4°C for up to 5–7 days. To speed up opening, move them to a room at +18–20°C. Cut stems at 45°, remove the lower foliage, use cool water and change it every 1–2 days. A flower-food sachet speeds opening and extends bloom life.

Keep peonies away from fruit — ethylene from ripe apples and bananas causes premature petal drop. On hot days keep the bouquet in the coolest room, away from the direct flow of the air conditioner; on days above +35°C move it to the fridge overnight, which adds 2–3 days. Message our manager and we'll help match the variety and stem count to the occasion and budget.
