Red balloons: the colour that takes over
Red behaves differently from every other colour in a display. It comes forward regardless of quantity and subordinates whatever stands beside it. So red balloons are either the deliberate focal point or kept to a limited share of the arrangement.
One mistake recurs. People order as much red as they would order of any other colour, and the result feels heavy.
Getting the proportion right
- Red as an accent: a small share against a neutral background.
- Red with white: the classic contrast, and it photographs well.
- Red with black and metallics: a formal option for adult events.
- Fully red decor: a strong statement that needs a large, light room behind it.
Shades of red differ more than people expect. A cool scarlet and a warm burgundy often clash in one arrangement, so pick a direction and stay in it.
Finish changes the effect. Matt red reads calmer than gloss and avoids harsh highlights when photographed with flash.
Occasions
Valentine's Day, anniversaries, a romantic dinner, birthdays, corporate events built on a red brand colour.
At children's parties red is used in measured amounts, usually as part of a multicolour range.
In wedding decor red normally serves as an accent to white rather than as the main colour.
For a photo corner red is useful because it is visible, but it needs testing. Placed too close it throws a coloured cast onto faces.
Paired with green it reads as Christmas almost regardless of intention. If the event has nothing to do with the holidays, take green out of the palette.
Ribbons and weights count as colour too. A red balloon on a red ribbon looks more considered than the same balloon on white or silver.
Red does not need quantity. It needs a position where it stays the only bright thing in the frame.
Practical notes
Dark balloons heat more than pale ones in sun, and red belongs to that group. Outdoors in summer a display lasts less time.
Under strong sun saturated red fades, and it shows more obviously than fading in pastels.
Helium balloons hold their lift for a limited period, which is confirmed when ordering.
If a display crosses Yerevan on the day, bring it close to the start rather than early.
JFLOO includes red balloons in its colour selections. Decide its share before ordering. This colour works better as an accent than as a background.
