Tulips with delivery in Krakow: varieties, the Kraków spring, and 8 March

In Kraków, spring begins with tulips and with a single date — 8 March. Dzień Kobiet, Women's Day, is dressed in flowers here like few other occasions: men carry tulips to colleagues, wives, and mothers, and within a couple of days the city visibly blooms. By April, spring plantings appear in the Planty ring around the Old Town and along the Vistula boulevards. Here a tulip isn't a routine office bouquet — it's the sign that winter has loosened its grip on the Vistula valley.

The category covers single-variety bouquets from 11 to 51 stems, mixed spring arrangements, and gift boxes with tulips and companion flowers — daffodils, ranunculus, anemones. The Kraków spring warms unevenly, with cold snaps, so the tulip season here is concentrated — March to May — and delivery timing matters.

Which varieties to choose

Dutch growers release hundreds of tulip varieties each year. We select those that combine stem strength, long vase life, and an interesting look — the criteria the Kraków buyer values.

  • Strong Gold — golden-yellow, a classic tulip on a tall, even stem. A bestseller for 8 March orders, and a good match for white and fresh-green spring arrangements.
  • Red Impression — rich red, large bud, very sturdy stem. Suited to large single-variety bouquets from 25 stems.
  • White Dreamland — clean white, slightly matte. Neutral and elegant, good in mixed spring bouquets.
  • Purple Flag — deep purple. A popular pick for those looking for colour beyond the red-yellow-white palette.
  • Queensday — pink-orange bicolour. A decorative group with a slightly fuller bud shape.
  • Black Hero — deep dark-purple, almost black, a double tulip. An unusual choice for the modern interiors of the Old Town and Podgórze.

Occasions and seasonality

The tulip is the flower of the Kraków spring. Dzień Kobiet (8 March) is the year's main peak for it: demand on these days runs higher than for any other occasion. Earlier, in January, come Dzień Babci and Dzień Dziadka (Grandmother's and Grandfather's Day, 21–22 January). Then Wielkanoc (Easter) in late March or April, and after that Dzień Matki, which in Poland always falls on 26 May. For city-centre offices, tulips in vases are a regular fixture from February to May.

Tulips are given by the single stem less often than roses — formats of 15, 25, and 51 stems are more typical. For 8 March, mixed-colour armfuls are especially sought after: several shades in one bouquet read more vividly than a single colour.

Freshness and logistics

The tulips in our catalogue are of Dutch origin, from the Aalsmeer and Royal FloraHolland auctions, via European hubs and Kraków's wholesale flower market. An overnight refrigerated truck delivers a batch to Krakow in roughly 16–18 hours in deep chill (+2…+4°C); the tulips arrive in closed buds. Maturing happens at the recipient's end — standard practice that extends shelf freshness.

An important point for the Kraków climate: on warm, sunny spring days tulips open noticeably faster. For a large event order, take delivery the evening before rather than the morning of the event, especially when warm weather is forecast.

"The tulip is the most temperature-sensitive flower we work with. In Kraków, spring weather swings: cold with valley fog in the morning, sun by midday — and the buds open before your eyes. For large orders we recommend delivery the day before the event, not on the day. And before 8 March, order early — it's the hottest flower day of the year."

Delivery specifics in Kraków

Kraków lies in the Vistula valley at about 220 m above sea level, ringed by hills. The climate is temperate continental: winters are cool, around −4…+1°C and down to −12…−15°C in frosty spells, with snow possible from December to February. The valley traps air, so fog and inversions are common in winter. Summers are warm, +23–27°C and above +32°C in heatwaves. Spring warms unevenly, and sunny spells can speed tulips' opening.

We deliver across all districts of Krakow: Stare Miasto and Kazimierz, Podgórze, Krowodrza, Grzegórzki, Prądnik Biały and Prądnik Czerwony, Bronowice, Zwierzyniec, Dębniki, Łagiewniki, Bieżanów-Prokocim, Czyżyny, Nowa Huta, Mistrzejowice. We take corporate orders for offices, restaurants, and hotels throughout the season. Payment is in złoty (zł). For Dzień Kobiet and Wielkanoc, book 3–5 days ahead — demand for tulips rises noticeably on peak days.

Care at home

Tulips keep growing in the vase — that's their quirk: stems lengthen by 3–5 cm after going into water. Cut at a 45° angle, strip the lower leaves, and change the water every day or every other day — tulips are very sensitive to bacteria in the water. A cool room temperature of +15…+18°C extends their life to 8–10 days.

Don't add anything extra to the water — aspirin and a copper coin work worse than clean, cool water changed regularly. On warm sunny days it's best to keep tulips in the coolest room and move them to the refrigerator overnight to slow the buds' opening.
