Baskets with daisies: white flowers and the light in the room
White is the one colour that changes with the room it stands in. In daylight a basket of daisies reads as clean and slightly cold, with the yellow centres carrying most of the warmth. Under a household bulb in the evening the same white turns cream, the centres darken, and the arrangement looks softer than it did at noon. Nobody photographs flowers at that hour, which is part of why baskets can look different at home from how they looked on a screen.

A basket of red roses loses its detail across a room and turns into a dark mass. Daisies go into a low dome rather than a tall spray. The stems are firm and take a foam channel easily, so a florist can set an angle and rely on it, and the heads are turned outwards to face the room instead of the ceiling. Seen from a chair, which is where most people see it, that turn is the difference between petals and a row of green backs.
One name covers several plants here. A shop daisy is usually either a single large garden head on one stem or a chrysanthemum type carrying a cluster of small ones, and the second fills a basket with far fewer stems.
What the recipient does with it

The flowers are already standing in soaked florist foam, the water sits in the liner beneath them, and topping it up at the rim is the only job attached. Pour slowly at the edge until the block stops taking water. A fingertip tells you more than looking does, since damp foam springs back and dry foam crumbles. The handle on most baskets is decorative, glued into the rim for the look of it, so the whole thing is lifted from underneath with two hands.
Leaves buried in the block are what usually ends one of these arrangements, not the flowers. They sour in the wet foam and the smell arrives before any visible damage. A careful build strips the lower stem before seating it.
Spent heads are pulled out with their stems and the socket is covered with a leaf, since that point no longer holds water. A fresh stem put into an old channel lasts a day or two and no longer.
