Bouquets tied with ribbon: bare stems and what they ask of you
No paper, no film, no foam. Stems are gathered in the hand, bound with ribbon at a grip point and cut level underneath, so flowers reach water within a minute of arriving.
That minute is most of the argument for this format.
Why an open stem is in a hurry
A cut stem draws air the moment it leaves water. Vessels near the cut fill with it, and once that plug has formed a stem cannot pull water again even from a full vase. Wrapped bouquets slow that down with a wet pad at the base. An open one has nothing between the cut and the room. That is why couriers carry these bundles upright, in a water tube or a damp cloth hidden under the ribbon, and why a bunch left standing in a warm car loses a day of vase life before anyone has seen it.
Recutting solves it, and the vase alone does not.
Take two centimetres off each stem at an angle and put it straight into clean water, ideally cutting under a running tap so the fresh surface never meets air. A dirty vase costs more days than a warm room does, because bacteria block a stem from below while the flower above still looks perfect.
Leaves, water level and the ribbon itself
Strip leaves off the lower third. A leaf left under water rots within a couple of days, clouds the vase and seals the cut. It is the commonest reason a bouquet fails early at home.
Fill a vase about halfway rather than to the brim. Stems drink from the bottom few centimetres, and the rest of that submerged length only adds surface for bacteria to work on.
The ribbon can stay. Most spiral-built bundles hold their shape because of it, and untying that knot in a vase leaves a loose fan of stems with a gap in the middle. If you want flowers spread out, trim them to different lengths instead of pulling the bundle apart.
What the format shows and what it hides
Nothing, which is the honest answer and it cuts both ways. A buyer sees the true length of every stem and the state of every cut. A shop working through a slow batch has nowhere to put it. Look at the base of the bundle in a photograph, at the colour of the cuts, and at whether stems all run in one direction like rope.

Where it works and where paper wins
Handing over indoors, at a table, at a desk, at home: a recipient in Prague unties, trims and puts the flowers in water without hunting for scissors or a bin for three layers of wrapping.
Below freezing, in rain, or on a long trip across town before the flowers reach a vase, paper stops being decoration and starts being insulation. Take a wrapped version and lose nothing except the moment of unwrapping.
The other limit is scale. Bouquets tied with ribbon read as precise rather than large. At an event with a long table and many guests, a wrapped bouquet of the same flower count simply occupies more room.
