Rose delivery in Tel Aviv: a Friday bouquet, local cut flowers and a Mediterranean temperament

Tel Aviv lives by the sea and without much ceremony: the beach, cafés along Rothschild Boulevard, bicycles, white Bauhaus and a Friday that begins on Thursday evening. Flowers are built into the weekly rhythm here — a bouquet for Shabbat is bought in many households, and the rose holds its place in that habit with confidence. It suits the table before a Friday dinner just as well as the moment you want to say something that really matters.

Unlike most of Europe, Israel grows its own cut flowers. Roses are raised in the Sharon plain, the Negev and the Arava: desert sun and drip irrigation give a dense head and saturated colour. Dutch and African (Kenya, Ethiopia) lots are added to the local supply, so the choice in the city stays wide all year round.

This category covers single-variety bouquets, mixed compositions, spray roses, market-style bunches in kraft and hat boxes. Formats run from a compact bunch of seven stems to a grand 51 or 101. Hotels, restaurants and offices around Sarona and the Port tend to order boxes and larger arrangements.

Which varieties to choose

The supply comes from three sources: local glasshouses, the Dutch Royal FloraHolland auction and African plantations. Here is the working breakdown.

  • Freedom, Red Naomi — the red anchor. Freedom is deep crimson with a dense head and 60–80 cm stems, lasting 10–14 days with care. Red Naomi is a velvety dark ruby with a softer petal. Both work for anniversaries and romantic occasions.
  • Avalanche+, Mondial — white and cream Dutch classics. A neutral base for mixed arrangements and wedding work. Avalanche+ holds its form 12–15 days in good conditions.
  • Juliet, Patience — David Austin garden roses with a cupped bud and a scent of myrrh and peach. For weddings and a heartfelt personal gift.
  • Tiffany, Sweet Avalanche — blush-pink and soft tones. A calm palette for bright Tel Aviv interiors.
  • Explorer, Topaz — Ecuadorian and Kenyan varieties with 80–100 cm stems. For large display bouquets, baskets and corporate gifts.
  • Spray roses — several buds per stem, lighter and airier in composition. Good for everyday gifts and accent stems.

Occasions and stem counts

A single stem is a spare, almost design-led gesture. Seven to nine stems is a romantic gift without theatrics. Twenty-five signals a proper celebration or declaration. Fifty-one and 101 are reserved for anniversaries, engagements and milestone dates.

Tel Aviv keeps no rigid colour rules — the city is young, secular and colourful, and red is not reserved for romance alone. One occasion stands apart: Tu B'Av, the Jewish day of love in August, when red and blush roses are snapped up as eagerly as on 14 February.

Freshness and logistics

Local cut flowers from the Sharon and the Arava reach a Tel Aviv florist within hours — that is their main advantage. Dutch and African lots fly into Ben Gurion Airport, just 20 km from the city: the flight from Amsterdam is about four to five hours, and by morning the flowers are with the workshops. From cut to the recipient's door takes a day for local roses and two to three days for imports; cared for properly, the bouquet then lasts 10–14 days.

A nearby airport and homegrown glasshouses keep the cold chain short, but the summer heat demands discipline: roses travel in refrigerated transport, with no standing about in the sun.

"In Tel Aviv people buy flowers on the move and often — a Friday bouquet is as routine here as morning coffee. But the heat doesn't forgive haste: if a rose overheats on the way, it opens in a day and drops its petals. A cold van and shade at unloading decide everything."

Delivery specifics in Tel Aviv

The city has a Mediterranean climate: hot, humid summers (May–October, +28 to +32 °C, with high sea humidity) and mild, rainy winters (+10 to +18 °C). Frost is practically unheard of. The main enemy of the rose here is heat and humidity, not cold. In summer, bouquets travel in refrigerated transport and thermal bags, delivered in the morning or evening to avoid the midday heat. Spring and autumn bring the sharav (khamsin) — a dry, hot desert wind that dehydrates cut flowers quickly, so on those days the wrapping is tighter.

We deliver roses across all districts of Tel Aviv: Neve Tzedek, Florentin, Rothschild Boulevard, Lev Ha'ir, Jaffa, Ramat Aviv, the Old North, Sarona, the Port (Namal), Bavli and Kikar HaMedina. Payment is in new Israeli shekels (₪, ILS). Peak dates: the weekly Shabbat (Friday evening), Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year, September), Pesach (spring), Tu B'Av (the day of love, August) and 14 February. Order three to five days ahead for the major dates.

Home care

On arrival, re-cut the stems at 45° — ideally under water — and strip any leaves below the waterline to prevent rot. Place in a clean vase with cool water and a sachet of flower food or a pinch of sugar. Change the water every two days.

In summer a Tel Aviv flat is hot and the air conditioning runs. Keep the bouquet away from the direct cold draught and from a window in full sun — sharp swings harm the rose. Keep the flowers away from bananas, apples and figs: the ethylene that ripe fruit emits shortens cut-flower life by around a third. Roses suit almost any occasion — message our team to match variety, colour and stem count to the occasion and budget.
