Tulip baskets in Vienna: why the foam needs water every day
Tulip baskets in Vienna built on floral foam last about as long as tulips in a vase, if the foam is watered daily over its whole surface. Dry foam barely takes water again. A basket stands without a vase, so the choice is scale and colour: twenty-five stems or a full basket of a hundred and fifty-one, white or yellow.
How to keep a tulip basket fresh at home
Water the basket daily, pouring a thin stream over the whole exposed surface of the foam rather than tipping water in from one spot. Don't tilt the basket to check it: an even, gentle soak keeps the foam doing its job.
Keep it away from radiators and direct sun, and away from ripe fruit, which gives off ethylene that ages cut flowers faster. A woven basket doesn't hold water on its own, so a tulip basket is lined on the inside with a waterproof liner, and that liner is what keeps each day's watering in place around the foam.
Each basket is arranged to order, with a photo sent before the courier leaves. If a tulip is out of stock, the florist swaps it for one close in shade and price, visible in that same photo. Sending one needs only the recipient's phone number, no address required. Timing shows in the basket's own listing; the delivery page covers the rest, and most orders are handed over the same day. These flower baskets need no vase, alongside the tulips and other single-flower bouquets on the site.
