Lily baskets in Washington: a greenhouse flower for any month
Lily baskets in Washington draw on a greenhouse flower available all year round, unlike spring tulips or early-summer peonies. So a lily basket suits any month. The choice then comes down to scale: the lily is a mass flower, one large head per stem giving weight and centre. The choice is between Lilies in a Basket, 51 Lilies in a Basket and the Giant Mixed Basket with Lilies, where "Mixed" hints at other flowers shown in the grid photo.
Each basket is put together to order, with a photo sent before the courier leaves and time for a change. The card is free, and timing shows on each basket's own page.
Keeping a lily basket at home: pollen, cats and water
Lily pollen stains fabric and is hard to lift out. Once a flower opens, remove the anthers by hand or tweezers before they shed; pollen on fabric lifts off with sticky tape, never rubbed.
Every part of a lily, including pollen and vase water, is toxic to cats. A lily basket does not suit a home with one — roses are a safer choice there. A woven basket does not hold water on its own and is lined inside; if set in foam, water it daily without tilting the basket. The arrangement ages as one piece, its life set by the shortest-lived flower in it — keep it away from radiators, sun and ripe fruit.
With scale decided, browse other flower baskets for a different flower, check roses for a cat-safe option, or see the delivery page for timing.
