Anonymous flower delivery in Amsterdam: what stays hidden and what arrives

Anonymous flower delivery in Amsterdam works the same way as any other order: the courier is given only the recipient's name and address, the sender's contacts go to no one, and the card can carry a signature or none at all. Any bouquet in the grid can travel this way, from a small bunch of Dianthus to a large bunch of thirty-five peonies, so the choice starts with what you want to stay hidden.

What the recipient sees when flowers arrive anonymously

The courier hands the bouquet directly to the recipient, together with the card, and says nothing beyond what the sender has asked for. A written note on the card costs nothing extra, and whether it carries a name is entirely the sender's choice: signed, or left blank.

The recipient isn't warned in advance unless the sender has asked for that. The one exception is a building the courier can't get into unannounced, an intercom or a gated entrance, where the courier calls from the door simply to be let in, not to say what's being delivered.

The card travels with the bouquet, and whether it carries a name is the sender's choice.

Without a home address, the recipient's phone number is enough to place the order. For a hotel, the surname the guest checked in under lets the front desk find them, and reception decides, by the hotel's own rules, whether the bouquet goes up to the room or waits downstairs. That kind of address suits flowers in boxes from the grid. For an office, the company name and floor do the same job as a home address.

No account or registration is needed on either side, only the sender's name and phone number. That number receives a photo of the finished bouquet before the courier leaves, and later a message once it's delivered. Payment runs through Visa or Mastercard on a secure page, and the courier collects nothing further; zones and other delivery terms are covered on that page.

Letting the flowers speak when the card is unsigned

Victorian floriography gave colours meanings that outlasted the fashion: a red rose stood for passionate love, pink for a softer feeling, white for purity, yellow for friendship. The dictionaries from that era don't agree with each other, so none of this is a fixed rule, more a habit that still shapes what people read into a colour.

The grid offers plenty of ways to lean on that habit without a word of explanation: lavender spray roses and peony roses, a bunch of mixed roses in a box, or single-palette arrangements such as Bouquet "Dark Silence" and Bouquet "Blue Field". Where nothing is known about the recipient's household, lilies are worth a second thought, since every part of the flower, including the pollen and the water in the vase, is toxic to cats. Carnations, a bunch of Dianthus or mixed alstroemeria make a safer stand-in.

Timing an anonymous bouquet for the right day

A bouquet booked for a set date and time can go to any zone, and the earlier the order goes in, the more slots are still open. Valentine's Day, 8 March and Mother's Day are the year's busiest days for the service, so slots fill faster and it's worth ordering several days ahead rather than the night before.

Nothing about the order is fixed until the bouquet actually leaves. The date, the address and the card text can all be changed up to six hours beforehand, by messaging the manager with the order number. How soon a particular bouquet can go out is shown on its own page, since that changes bouquet by bouquet.

A first anonymous order is easiest to start from the flower rather than the occasion: roses and peonies cover most of the colour meanings above, and mono bouquets keep the choice to a single, unmistakable flower.
