Flower baskets by type: sorted by how they end, not how they arrive

Flower basket standing on a hall table in a home

Buyers picture the minute the basket is carried in. Florists think about what happens afterwards, because that is where the three types stop resembling each other. One is kept for as long as the flowers hold, one is cleared away by staff the same night, and one is pulled apart before the evening is over.

The ending shapes the build.

Underneath, all of them are the same idea. A soaked block of florist's foam sits inside the weave behind a plastic liner, the water travels with the arrangement, and somebody adds a little from above every day or two. The recipient is asked for nothing at all, which is the point of the format.

The one that gets kept

This basket has to survive ordinary life in somebody's home. It is put down on a table, moved when the table is needed, carried into another room, and set on a shelf that is narrower than the person expected. Anything built tall and loose gives up after two or three of those moves and stands crooked for the rest of its life.

There is a second life after the flowers finish. The weave itself outlasts everything in it, and a basket with a flat base and an honest frame tends to stay in the house for storage long after the arrangement has gone.

The one that gets cleared

An event basket is looked at by a room and touched by nobody. It arrives built, it goes where the planner points, and at some agreed hour it leaves in a van or goes into a bin behind the venue.

Two things follow from that. It never has to survive a week, so the florist can build for the evening rather than for endurance. And somebody has to be named, in advance, as the person responsible for taking it down, because that job falls to whoever is still standing at midnight if nobody claims it beforehand.

Guests sometimes take these home. That is worth planning for rather than discovering, since a basket built to be seen from four metres is rarely the size anyone wants in a taxi.

The one that gets dismantled

Where fruit or berries go in alongside the stems, the arrangement is on two clocks at once. The edible half counts hours and wants cold, the flowers count days and want the room, and the moment those two requirements meet is the moment the basket comes apart on a kitchen counter.

A sound build expects that. Each half lifts out on its own, the floral part sits in vials or in foam behind a barrier, and what is left after the fruit has gone still looks like something rather than a hole.

Choosing between them

Ask what the arrangement will be doing an hour after it arrives, not what the occasion is called. Carried or placed. Moved during dinner or left in a corner. Taken apart tonight or standing on a chest of drawers next weekend.

Those answers settle the type faster than any photograph.

Flower baskets by type also travel differently, and that matters when the address is a flat on an upper floor with no lift. Confirm the width of the door and the weight before assembly, since a courier in Fethiye cannot renegotiate either of them on the landing.
