Purple tulips in Hong Kong: lilac, lavender and purple in one bouquet
Purple tulips in Hong Kong come in a grid that names one colour three ways: lilac, lavender and purple. Colour theory calls a bouquet built from shades of a single colour a monochrome scheme, and that is what the bouquets in the grid are. What is left to choose is the word in the name and the stem count, since the exact shade shows on the photo taken before the courier sets off.
Lilac, lavender or purple: choosing the shade and the stem count
Lilac, lavender and purple are names, not separate types of tulip, and one word does not sit lighter or darker than another on the page. The florist photographs the finished bouquet before leaving, so the actual shade is there to see, and anything about it can still be changed at that point. Stem counts run from 15 to 101: 15 Purple Tulips, 25 Lilac Tulips and 101 Lavender Tulips give a sense of the range, from a small hand-tied bunch to a large one.
Dutch greenhouse growers cut tulips from December to May; the bulbs spend a cold spell in artificial winter first, then are forced into bloom under glass. At home the flowers do best in a vase filled about a third with cold water, since warm, deep water softens the stems and lets them bend. Turning the vase once a day keeps the stems straight, because a tulip leans toward the light. Every bouquet is put together to order, and a card with a message is added at no extra cost.
Other single-flower arrangements sit in mono bouquets, tulips paired with other flowers appear among mixed bouquets, and delivery conditions are on the delivery page.
