Roses in Los Angeles: the stems that land at LAX and how to choose them

Roses in Los Angeles mostly arrive through LAX, the United States' second entry point for cut flowers after Miami. From 4 April to 8 May 2022, the Mother's Day season, customs officers there inspected more than 36 million stems, with roses, tulips and dendrobium orchids the most numerous arrivals. Ecuadorian or Dutch: the roses that reach Los Angeles through LAX

LAX clears cut-flower cargo from Ecuador, Colombia, the Netherlands, Thailand and Australia, and roses travel that route mainly from the Ecuadorian, Colombian and Dutch growers among them. About eighty per cent of the cut flowers sold in the US are imported, and Colombia and Ecuador supply most of that volume.
