Golden wedding anniversary flowers: a gift for two people at once
A fiftieth anniversary differs from every other anniversary in one way: there are two recipients, not one. A bouquet addressed only to the wife reads as an oversight on this particular day, especially when it is handed over in front of guests.
One arrangement or two
The simplest answer is a shared arrangement for the table and a smaller, personal bouquet for the wife. The first stays where everyone sits; the second she takes with her.
If it is to be one, build it for a table rather than for the hands. Nobody in their seventies wants to hold a heavy bouquet through an evening, and a tall one blocks the view across a table. A low arrangement in a container settles both that and the vase question.
Gold without the glitter
The name of the anniversary invites foil, glitter and metallic ribbon. In practice all three look cheap and argue with the occasion.
Colour does the job far better than material: cream, champagne, ochre, pale yellow, warm peach, white with green. That palette reads as golden without a single sequin.
Roses, lisianthus, chrysanthemum, hydrangea, alstroemeria and carnation all belong here. Roses in cream and apricot varieties are the most predictable choice that still does not look like a default.
About the number
Fifty-one roses is the obvious move, and it works if the couple has anywhere to put it. In a small flat an armful of that size occupies half a table and needs a bucket rather than a vase.
A medium arrangement with the number written on the card is usually the better version of the same idea. The figure matters as a sign, not as a volume.
Practicalities of age
A heavy glass vessel is awkward to lift and to wash, long stems have to be trimmed over a sink, and a tall vase full of water tips easily. A foam-based arrangement asks for none of that — a little water every couple of days and nothing else.
The card
Use both names. A date, or the year it started, does more than any general phrase — on this day those details are the gift.
Delivery
Anniversaries are held at home or in a restaurant, and it is easier to deliver to the venue before guests arrive. If the flowers are going to an older couple in Mumbai, ask for a call ahead: an unannounced stranger at the door is not always welcome.
