Matching the occasion
For a birth or a hospital discharge, small toys in neutral shades work best. They go in the cot and appear in the photographs taken that week.

For romantic occasions, treat the toy as an accompaniment to the flowers rather than the main event. A small bear with a bouquet works. A metre tall bear on its own hands the recipient a storage problem.
