Red peonies in Riyadh: from a soft bud to a full open flower
Red peonies in Riyadh are cut at the marshmallow stage, when the bud already shows its colour but the petals stay closed and soft to a light press. In warm water and daylight it opens within 24–48 hours, so you get the flower near the start of that stage, with the full bloom following a day or two later. A photo is sent before the courier leaves, and flowers are bought only after payment.
How red peonies open and how long they last
A bud as hard as a small marble may not open at home, so a soft press is the better sign to look for. Kept well, a bouquet lasts five to seven days in the vase: change the water daily, trim the stems, and keep it cool, away from sun, radiators and ripe fruit. Peonies also come in a hat box, among the flowers in boxes.
When red peonies are in season
Peonies are a flower of late spring and early summer in the northern hemisphere: the Netherlands, France, Germany and the UK cut them from late April to June. Chile fills October to December, Australia and New Zealand from October, and an early crop comes from Israel, Italy and France between February and April. So peonies are on offer nearly all year, but not every week; the Netherlands is the largest grower of cut peonies.
