11 roses in Stockholm: one count, several kinds of rose
11 roses in Stockholm always means the same count, and what changes is the rose itself: Dutch in a wrap, Kenyan French, Jumilia, Lavender and Bombastic spray roses. Once the number is fixed, the choice comes down to variety, colour, and whether the flowers arrive in a wrap, a box or a hat box.
Eleven stems, several kinds of rose
Kenyan French roses grow on farms around Lake Naivasha, at about 2,800–3,000 metres, and their stems usually run shorter than Ecuador's. Dutch roses come from greenhouse growers and cover the classic varieties, with no stated stem length. Jumilia opens into a bud up to seven centimetres across, white at the base and pink at the edge, lasting up to two weeks in a vase with good care. French in a rose's name is not a variety: it marks petals the florist has turned back by hand. Lavender and Bombastic spray roses, along with the Madame and Wendi varieties, complete the range.
Why eleven, and sending the bouquet
In Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and most countries of the former Soviet Union, an odd number of flowers is for the living and an even number for remembrance; outside that tradition, a dozen is the usual count. The florist photographs the finished bouquet before the courier sets off, and the card is free, signed or left anonymous. How soon it arrives shows on the bouquet's own page, with details on the delivery page.
For a different count, the wider roses section covers other quantities, and flowers in boxes give the same eleven stems a different presentation.
