Tulips by type in Tel Aviv: flower form, size or a basket
Tulips by type in Tel Aviv splits the section three ways: by flower form, with Peony Tulips and Black Peony Tulips; by size, with 101 Snow Tulips and 101 Mixed Tulips; and by container, with Basket of 151 Tulips and 25 Yellow Tulips in a Basket. Decide first which matters more to you: the flower, the stem count, or a bouquet that needs no vase.
Peony Tulip Bouquet and Black Peony Tulips head the flower-form group. The size group runs from 51 Tulips "Random" No. 2 to 101 Snow Tulips and 101 Mixed Tulips. White Tulips Basket and 25 Yellow Tulips in a Basket stand in their own container, no vase needed. Dutch greenhouse tulips are cut from December to May, once the bulbs have had a spell of artificial cold.
Keeping tulips in shape in the vase
A cut tulip keeps growing, roughly one to two centimetres a day, and leans toward the light, so a bouquet's outline can shift within a day or two. Pour cold water and fill the vase only a third full, since deep, warm water softens the stems and lets them bend. Turn the vase once a day so the stems lean evenly. Cut the stems at an angle, change the water every day or two, and keep the vase away from radiators, direct sun and ripe fruit.
The florist sends a photo of the finished bouquet before the courier sets off. Start with peony tulips for the flower itself, large tulip bouquets for the highest stem counts, or tulip baskets for an arrangement that stands without a vase.
