Lilac bouquet in Mexico City: the flower, the shade and the season

A lilac bouquet in Mexico City means two things. It can be an actual lilac branch, as in the Hydrangea and Lilac Bouquet or the Flower Box of French Roses and Lilac. Or it can be a pale purple shade, as in 25 Lilac Tulips and the Lavender Chrysanthemum Bouquet. Lilac is a May cut, while chrysanthemums grow under glass year-round, so the choice starts with the month.

Lilac the flower or lilac the colour: what the section sells

Some names use lilac as a flower: the Hydrangea and Lilac Bouquet, the Pink Roses and Lilac Bouquet, the Duotone Bouquet of Spray Roses and Lilac, and the Flower Box of French Roses and Lilac. French roses aren't a variety — the name refers to reflexing, where the florist turns back the outer petals by hand.

Other names use lilac, or its lighter twin lavender, as a colour: 25 Lilac Tulips, the Lavender Tulips line from 19 to 101 stems, and the Lavender Chrysanthemum Bouquet. It also lists a Lavender Basket, a Designer Cylinder called "Siren", and five numbered arrangements, Lilac Bouquet No. 1 through No. 5.

A monochrome bouquet groups shades of one colour, so a lilac branch and tulips in the same shade can share a vase.

When lilac branches are in season and what fills the rest of the year

Lilac branches are a May cut in the northern hemisphere. Dutch greenhouse tulips run longer, from December to May, after the bulb passes an artificial winter in cold storage and is forced into bloom under glass. Chrysanthemums need no such calendar — grown under glass, they sit in the catalogue all year.

When the named flower isn't available, the florist substitutes one close in shade and price. The change shows up in the photo sent before the courier leaves, and that's the moment to request a different substitution.

How long a lilac bouquet lasts in a vase

A chrysanthemum lasts two to three weeks, though its leaves yellow first and are worth removing early. A rose holds for about a week.

Tulips keep growing after cutting, stretching a centimetre or two a day toward the light. Fill the vase with cold water to about a third and turn it daily.

Hydrangea drinks more than the rest; revive a drooping head in cool water for an hour or two.

Overall: cut stems at an angle, strip submerged leaves, change the water every day or two, and keep flowers away from radiators, sun and fruit. Water a basket daily with a thin stream and never tilt it.

Lilac bouquet delivery in Mexico City: photo, card and payment

This bouquet is made to order: flowers are bought only after payment, and a photo goes out before the courier sets off. The card is free and can carry a message or stay blank; the courier knows only the recipient's name and address, or just a phone number without one.

Payment runs through Visa or Mastercard, and the cart total is final. Most orders reach the recipient the same day, with exact timing shown on the bouquet's page. Delivery in the centre is free; see the delivery page.

A simple way to start is by shade rather than story. Try mono bouquets in one colour, flowers in boxes for a vase-free option, or roses where lilac appears as an accent.
