Peonies with delivery in Warsaw: varieties, Warsaw weddings, and a short season

A peony in Warsaw needs no explanation. The large, densely packed, fragrant head speaks for itself — chosen when you want a bouquet to land without a card. A city of the grand Krakowskie Przedmieście, Łazienki Park, and the palace at Wilanów knows how to value that restrained luxury. We built the catalogue with exactly that taste in mind.

The category includes single-variety bouquets from 9 to 51 stems, mixed arrangements with roses, lisianthus, and eucalyptus, and hatboxes for corporate and wedding orders. The peony season in Central Europe is short — the main peak falls in May and June. In Warsaw that coincides with the wedding season: celebrations in the country estates of Mazovia, in the halls of the Old Town, and at open-air venues along the Vistula all happen in these very weeks.

Which varieties to choose

We work with four sources: Dutch-grown peonies for volume and consistency, French garden varieties on long cutting stems, historic American hybrids that set the world standard, and local Polish peonies that arrive in a short May–June window. Below are the varieties most often requested in Warsaw.

• Sarah Bernhardt — soft pink-salmon, large head, lasting fragrance. One of the most recognised wedding varieties in the world; in Warsaw it's the default request for ceremonies.
• Coral Charm — coral fading to peach as it opens. Semi-spherical in its early stage. Looks excellent in modern arrangements for Śródmieście restaurants.
• Karl Rosenfield — deep raspberry-red, dense bud, intense fragrance. A classic for anniversary and formal bouquets.
• Duchesse de Nemours — pure white with a creamy centre. Suited to bridal bouquets and white ceremonial arrangements.
• Bowl of Beauty — pink outer petals, creamy-yellow centre. Anemone-form — an unconventional, visually striking choice for large installations.
• Juliet (David Austin peony rose) — technically a rose, but close to peonies in form and character. Used as a stand-in out of season or to boost fragrance in peony arrangements.

Occasions and seasonality

May and June are the main peony months in Warsaw. The bulk of weddings fall in this period, especially in the country estates of Mazovia and the historic halls of the capital. The peony is a traditional element of wedding décor: the bridal bouquet, table settings, arches, boutonnières.

The season conveniently coincides with Dzień Matki — Polish Mother's Day, which always falls on 26 May; peonies arrive right on time for the date. Beyond weddings, peonies are chosen for milestone birthdays, end-of-May and June graduations, and as a gift for a business opening. Walentynki and Dzień Kobiet (8 March), by contrast, have almost nothing to do with peonies — there's no local peony in February or March, so those dates go to roses and tulips.

Freshness and logistics

Dutch peonies reach Warsaw from the Aalsmeer and Royal FloraHolland auctions by overnight refrigerated truck — about 1,200 km and a 14–16 hour run. A morning lot is distributed to the city's florists the next day through the Bronisze wholesale flower market on the edge of Warsaw. In May and June, local Polish growers add to the supply, and French garden varieties from Brittany and Provence come in by air at peak season.

Peonies are delivered at the "pea-sized bud" stage — still closed; opening takes 2–4 days depending on temperature and variety. If you need open peonies for a specific date, tell us when you order and we'll select a batch with the right head start. At +18°C a peony fully opens in about 3 days; at +10°C, in 5–6.

Delivery specifics in Warsaw

Warsaw's climate is transitional between maritime and continental, on the Masovian plain: summers are warm, +24–28°C and above +32°C in heatwaves. For open peonies this is the main risk — dry, hot air speeds petal drop, and early heatwaves can hit as soon as June. We build event batches with an eye on the forecast and hold flowers in cold storage at +4…+6°C until assembly.

We deliver peonies across all districts of Warsaw: Śródmieście and the Old Town, Mokotów, Wola, Ochota, Żoliborz, Praga-Północ and Praga-Południe, Ursynów, Bielany, Wilanów, Bemowo, Targówek. Payment is in złoty (zł, PLN). For wedding orders, at least 7–10 days ahead. For June celebrations we recommend booking the date as early as April: the peony and wedding peaks overlap, and good material is claimed in advance.

Care at home

Peonies in closed bud keep well at +4°C for 5–7 days. To speed opening, move them to a room at +18–20°C. Cut stems at a 45° angle, remove the lower leaves, use cool water, and change it every 1–2 days. A Chrysal sachet speeds opening and extends the flower's life.

Don't place peonies near fruit — ethylene from ripe apples and bananas causes premature petal drop. Warsaw apartments often warm to +22–24°C in winter, so keep the bouquet in the coolest room.
