Chinese New Year worldwide: red roses by count, stem and wrapping

Chinese New Year worldwide runs on red roses almost from top to bottom of the grid: only one bouquet, 51 Red and White Roses, breaks the colour. In two of them, 25 and 101 Red Roses with Eucalyptus, sprigs of eucalyptus sit among the heads, and that pairing sets the pattern for the rest. With one colour doing most of the work, the bouquets tell apart by stem count, height and the way the roses are wrapped.

Red roses for Chinese New Year: what the section holds

Most bouquets in the section are red roses and nothing else; 51 Red and White Roses is the single exception, mixing in white. Florists sort flowers by the job each one does in a bouquet. A rose is a mass flower: it carries the weight and gives the arrangement its centre. Eucalyptus is a filler, and in 25 and 101 Red Roses with Eucalyptus it closes the small gaps between the rose heads, so the red reads as one block rather than separate blooms.

11 Red French Roses gets its name from a technique, not a variety. A French rose starts as an ordinary rose, and the florist turns the outer petals back by hand until the bloom opens into a wider, softer shape. A handful of bouquets carry names rather than numbers — Naomi, Elegance, No Time to Wait — though the same all-red palette runs through each of them too.

Eucalyptus fills the gaps between the rose heads, so the red reads as one soft mass rather than separate blooms.

The count runs from 11 stems up to 101, and 101 comes in two shapes: a tied bouquet, or Bunch of 101, a loose armful. Everywhere in between, the number is really a matter of how much red you want on the table.

Tall marks a long stem. In the trade generally, the longest rose stems, from about seventy centimetres to a metre or more, are grown on Ecuadorian farms high in the Andes, though that is not a claim about where these particular roses came from. Worth knowing too: in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and most of the former Soviet countries, an odd number of stems is what people give to someone living. Every count in this section, from 11 to 101, happens to be odd.

Kraft, box or cylinder: how the roses arrive

Kraft paper and the loose bunch are both meant for a vase: unwrap them, trim the stems and stand them in water, and a rose lasts around a week that way, sometimes closer to ten days. Lady Kraft and 19 Red Roses in Kraft Paper both use this wrap, and Red Roses in a Cylinder is another format built the same way.

Box No. 1 and Box No. 2 work differently. The stems sit upright in floral foam, and watered daily across its whole surface, the foam holds water much the way a vase does. Left to dry out, the same foam barely takes up water at all, which is why the surface needs checking rather than the box needing opening.

Neither flower sits in this section, but both carry weight in Chinese custom. The peony has long been called the king of flowers there, and the flower of wealth and honour; the Qing dynasty made it China's national flower in 1903. The chrysanthemum stands for longevity, and cut, it holds in a vase for two to three weeks, longer than most roses do.

Peonies are cut somewhere in the world for most of the year, though not every month, so a florist cannot promise one on any given date. Describe the budget and the shape you have in mind directly to a florist, or browse the full flower range for something already in stock; either way, a photo with a price comes back before any payment is taken.

Chinese New Year flower delivery for a set day

Delivery to a chosen date and time is offered to any zone, and the earlier the order goes in, the more slots are still open on the calendar. Most orders go out the same day they are placed, and the exact window for a given bouquet shows on its own page; the delivery terms page sets out how the zones work.

Before the courier leaves, the florist photographs the finished bouquet, and anything off can be fixed at that point rather than after arrival. The card that goes with it costs nothing extra and can carry a name or stay unsigned. Where there is no address to give, the recipient's phone number is enough. Payment is taken by Visa or Mastercard, and within the centre, delivery itself is free.

Start with the red roses that fill most of the section, or open the full flower range if red is not the plan. For a date beyond this one, other occasions covers the rest of the calendar worldwide.
