Bouquet with mimosa worldwide: Italy's flower for 8 March
A bouquet with mimosa worldwide carries a date with it: in Italy, mimosa has marked 8 March since 1946, the country's first nationwide women's day after the war, put forward by UDI activists. They picked mimosa because it flowers across the country by early March, while the carnation already belonged to May Day and the orchid cost too much. Mimosa has stayed the traditional flower for the day ever since, sold on its own or set alongside other flowers.
Mimosa on its own, with tulips or with roses
A bunch of mimosa on its own is the plainest choice, just the yellow sprays with nothing added. Mimosa paired with tulips sets two calendars side by side: Acacia dealbata flowers naturally from January to March, with French growers cutting it from November to March, while Dutch greenhouse tulips run from December to May. A basket holds mimosa without a vase, so it can go straight onto a table or a desk; find more of the shape among flower baskets. In the handbag-shaped arrangements, mimosa sits with French roses, a rose where the florist has turned the outer petals back by hand rather than a separate variety; the technique is explained on the roses page.
Every bouquet is put together to order, and a photo comes back before the courier sets off, so a florist can be asked to adjust it. If one flower is out of stock, it is replaced with something close in colour and price, and the change is visible in that photo. Delivery timing is shown on the bouquet's own page; details are on the delivery page. The card can carry a name or stay unsigned.
