Autumn bouquets worldwide: why the chrysanthemum leads the season

In Japan the chrysanthemum is the imperial flower and the symbol of autumn — it names nearly every bouquet in autumn bouquets worldwide. It grows outdoors into autumn and year-round in greenhouses, so shape decides the bouquet, not month: chrysanthemum alone, with lily or Jumilia, or a sunflower.

Chrysanthemums, sunflowers and how long they last in a vase

A chrysanthemum lasts two to three weeks in a vase, a rose about one. Its leaves yellow before the flower does, so remove them. Cut the stems at an angle, strip underwater leaves, change the water every day or two, and keep the vase from heat, sun and fruit. The Chrysanthemum and Lily Bouquet suits cat-free homes: lily pollen, leaves and vase water are toxic to cats. The rest join the mixed bouquets by look alone.

Where a chrysanthemum is not a gift

In France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Poland, Hungary and Croatia a large chrysanthemum means a funeral or a grave, not a gift. China reads it as longevity, the United States usually as cheerful. Sending there, pick a sunflower or another section's bouquet, or ask a florist for one suited to the occasion and budget — photo and price come before payment.

A photo goes out before the courier leaves; delivery time is on the bouquet's page — see delivery page. For chrysanthemum-free options, try the mono bouquets.
