Flowers for a performer worldwide: peonies, lilies and good timing

Among flowers for a performer worldwide, the grid's Bunch of 35 Peonies carries the name of Paeon, physician to the gods in Greek myth, and China calls the peony the king of flowers. Peonies have a season, though, while the lilies and carnations sitting next to them in the same grid do not, so the choice starts with the calendar and with whether the performer will carry the bouquet away or have it sent ahead.

A bouquet to carry or a basket to send after the show

A bouquet meant for a hand, not a vase, is built to be carried out in one arm. The Lavender Smoothie, the 11 Lavender Spray Roses and Blue Field all work that way, and they are handed over after the bow, when the performer still has to walk off holding it.

A basket is a different job. The 51 Lilies in a Basket and the Giant Mixed Basket with Lilies are sent rather than carried. The flower baskets in this grid share the same build: the stems stand in wet floral foam, and the whole thing stands on its own without a vase. The foam needs water every day, run in a thin stream over the whole exposed surface, and the basket should never be tilted once it is filled.

Peonies follow a season rather than a calendar of their own choosing. Their main season in Europe runs from late April to June, and other countries fill the gap outside those months, so a peony is nearly a year-round flower but not quite one.

Lilies, carnations such as the 15 Dianthus, alstroemeria in the 13 Mixed Alstroemeria and chrysanthemums in the 5 Pink Chrysanthemums are greenhouse flowers, and all four are in the catalogue in every month. For anyone on tour, vase life is worth knowing too: dianthus, alstroemeria and chrysanthemums last two to three weeks, while a rose lasts around a week.

Lily pollen is the one thing worth watching around a stage costume, since it leaves a stain on fabric that is hard to lift. Florists remove the anthers once the flower has opened, and fresh pollen that lands on cloth should be lifted with sticky tape rather than rubbed in. A lily is also not the flower to send to a home with a cat, since every part of the plant is poisonous to cats.

Flower delivery timed to a performance

An order for a fixed date and time is taken for any zone, and the earlier it is placed, the more time slots are still open. That is the detail that matters most when you send flowers for a performer worldwide: a slot booked early holds, one booked at the last minute may not.

A concert held in a restaurant is a case the delivery team can work around directly: the timing is agreed with the venue's manager, and the flowers arrive for that exact moment, including the point where the performer walks out. Where a building cannot be entered without a call ahead, the courier rings from the door, and if there is no fixed address at all, the recipient's phone number is enough to find them.

A photo of the finished bouquet goes out before the courier leaves, and anything about it can still be changed at that point. The card is free, and it can carry a signed message or stay blank, since the courier only ever knows the recipient's name and address. Timing itself is shown on each bouquet's own page rather than promised in the text.

A first order of flowers for a performer worldwide starts with the calendar: peonies in their own months, roses the rest of the year. A basket suits anything sent ahead of the show, and the delivery page covers how the timing and the zones work.
