Peonies delivered in Dubai: varieties, season, and the right cut stage

The peony is one of the most emotional flowers in modern floristry. A round, voluminous bud, a soft honey scent, dense layers of petals — the effect is hard to repeat with roses or ranunculus. It is the go-to flower for weddings, milestone anniversaries, and large emotional gifts.

This category brings together herbaceous, tree, and intersectional (Itoh) peonies across multiple varieties. We work with European greenhouses, Chilean and New Zealand plantations — so peonies stay in the catalogue almost year-round, not only in the traditional May–June window.

Key varieties we carry

Each peony variety solves its own task — from a classic romantic gift to a complex wedding composition. They differ in bud shape, palette, scent, and vase life.

• Sarah Bernhardt — 1906 classic, pale-pink double bud up to 18 cm, honey scent. The "safe" universal pick for weddings and anniversaries.
• Karl Rosenfield — deep red, dense bud. Works for moody wine palettes and autumn arrangements.
• Festiva Maxima — white with a crimson drop in the centre. The most photogenic white peony, a wedding floristry classic.
• Coral Charm — shifts from coral-peach to creamy yellow as it opens. One of the most fashionable varieties of the 2020s.
• Duchesse de Nemours — soft white with a cream centre. Light vanilla scent, romantic presentation.
• Itoh hybrids (Bartzella, Cora Louise) — crosses of herbaceous and tree peonies, larger blooms and longer vase life.

The cut stage and why it matters

The single most important rule when buying peonies is the "marshmallow" stage. The bud is coloured but still soft to the touch. If it springs back like a marshmallow under light pressure, the peony will open in 1–2 days and last 7–9 days in the vase. A hard green bud may never open. A fully open one lasts at most 2–3 days.

Every batch we receive is checked by hand against this standard. Only marshmallow-stage buds go out for delivery — that gives the recipient in Dubai the full bloom cycle, not a fading final stage.

Seasonality and logistics

The natural northern hemisphere peony season runs from late May to mid-June. At peak local bloom the prices are lowest and the variety selection is widest. From July to February we work with southern hemisphere suppliers — Chile, New Zealand, Australia. Off-season prices are 2–3 times higher, but quality and vase life remain the same.

For Dubai we coordinate the delivery date with the moment of opening. This matters especially for weddings and anniversaries: the peony should open in time for the event, not the day after.

Compositions and occasions

Peonies have been the dominant wedding flower of the last decade. Bridal bouquets, groomsmen's boutonnieres, arch and table decor — they work everywhere. Anniversaries come second: 25, 30, 35 years of marriage are most often marked with peonies. Then come large business gifts: partners, company milestones, project launches.

Mixed bouquets of peonies and David Austin garden roses sit in a class of their own. The two flowers are close in shape and texture, complement each other in palette and vase life. Managers will suggest proportions and stem counts within your budget.

Delivery specifics in Dubai

Summer in Dubai means +40…+45 °C in the day and up to +35 °C at night from June through September. Cut flowers lose vitality from overheating in minutes. During this period we move bouquets only in refrigerated vehicles, deliver in early morning or late evening windows (before 10:00 and after 19:00), and pack compositions in heavy kraft with a thermal liner.

Winter in Dubai is mild (+20…+27 °C, November–March) and ideal for delicate varieties: garden roses, tulips, ranunculus. Prices drop, the range widens, and delivery works any time of day.

We cover all districts: Downtown, Dubai Marina, JBR, Palm Jumeirah, Business Bay, Jumeirah, DIFC, Arabian Ranches, Al Barsha. Catalogue prices are in dirhams (AED), payment by card or cash on receipt. During local holidays (Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, UAE National Day on 2 December) and Ramadan we run a special schedule — place orders 2–3 days ahead.

Care at home

After delivery, recut the stems at a 45° angle, strip leaves below the water line, place in a tall vase with cool water. Change the water every 2 days. Keep the bouquet away from fruit and radiators — ethylene and heat halve the peony's life.

In the hot climate of Dubai, move the bouquet into the fridge or the coolest room overnight if room temperature exceeds 24 °C. This pause in the plant's metabolism adds 2–3 extra days of bloom.
