Red tulips worldwide: a bouquet that keeps growing after it arrives
A cut tulip keeps growing in the vase, about one to two centimetres a day, and turns toward the light, so red tulips worldwide change shape within a day or two of arriving. First decide how many stems to send, then stand the bouquet so it grows evenly.
How many red tulips: from 15 stems to 101
The grid lists red tulips by stem count: 15, 19, 25 as Red Airy Tulips, 35 and two bouquets of 101, plus two listed simply as Red Tulip Bouquet and Bouquet of Red Tulips. A tulip usually opens one flower per stem, so the number in the name is the head count. Each bouquet is hand-tied to order and photographed before the courier leaves. Dutch greenhouse tulips reach the shop from December to May, once forced bulbs pass an artificial winter under glass.
Keeping red tulips in shape in the vase
Cold water suits cut tulips best, with the vase filled to about a third: deep, warm water softens stems until they bend. Turn the vase once a day, since a tulip stem keeps reaching for light. Cut each stem at an angle as soon as the bouquet arrives, strip off leaves that would sit under water, and keep the vase away from radiators, sun and ripe fruit.
