25 Roses worldwide: a silver-anniversary count and how to choose one

A silver wedding marks twenty-five years of marriage, a custom kept in German lands since the sixteenth century alongside the golden anniversary at fifty. A bouquet of 25 roses worldwide is one way to match the stems to the years, not a rule anyone has to follow. At the same count, though, the roses in this section differ in variety, stem length and what the stems stand in — a hand-tied wrap, a box, a basket or a pot.

Which roses make up a bouquet of 25: varieties and colours

Named varieties set the section apart from a plain rose count. White Nice opens in pure white; Pink X-Pression and Juliana appear as separate named varieties in the grid. Jumilia buds run up to seven centimetres, with a white base shading into a pink edge and a vase life of up to two weeks with proper care. The grid also lists 25 Lavender Spray Roses and 25 Misty Bubbles Roses among the varieties, each sold under its own name within the wider range of all roses.

Where a description says "French", that is not a variety at all: the florist turns the outer petals of an ordinary rose back by hand, so the head opens wider and looser than a closed classic bud. Colour carried meaning in Victorian flower dictionaries, though the books never fully agreed with each other: red stood for passion, pink read as something softer, and white for purity. Red Roses with Eucalyptus keeps that reading simple by design — the rose is the flower doing the work, and the eucalyptus is filler around it.

Turning back the outer petals by hand opens each head wider, which is what makes a rose 'French'.

Stem length depends on where the rose was grown. An Ecuadorian rose typically runs from seventy centimetres to over a metre, cut from a long, straight cane, while a Dutch greenhouse rose is usually shorter. The 25 Tall Red Roses and 25 Tall Roses keep that longer stem instead of the shorter classic one, so they stand taller than the wrapped bouquets in the same section.

Length also shapes how the bouquet is tied. A hand-tied spiral gathers the stems so they cross about a hand's width below the heads, and that crossing point lets the finished bouquet stand upright on a table on its own, with no vase to lean on.

Wrapped, boxed or in a basket: choosing the container

A box holds its roses in floral foam, a material Smithers-Oasis brought to market in 1954. Soaked foam feeds the stems much as a vase does, provided the whole surface is watered every day; once it dries out, it barely takes water back, so a skipped day shows. The round hatbox shape borrows from nineteenth-century boxes made to carry hats.

A basket works on the same principle from the inside: a waterproof liner holds a block of foam, so the whole arrangement stands without a vase and ages as one piece rather than stem by stem. The Jute Pot is simply another way the same 25 roses are set out, in a woven pot rather than paper, a box or a basket.

A wrapped, hand-tied bouquet asks a bit more of whoever receives it. The stems want a fresh angled cut, any leaf that would sit under water comes off, and the water is best changed every day or two, away from radiators, direct sun and a fruit bowl. Kept that way, a rose usually lasts around a week, sometimes closer to ten days.

Florists buy the roses only after the order is paid, then photograph the finished bouquet before the courier leaves. Changes to the address or the card text can still be made at that point, though never later than six hours before delivery. Full terms sit on the delivery page.

If a named variety is out of stock, it is replaced with one close in shade and price, and the substitution appears on the photo the sender receives.

Delivery in the centre costs nothing, most orders go out on the day they are placed, and the exact timing for a given bouquet sits in its own card rather than in this text. Sending 25 roses worldwide needs no address at all — a phone number is enough for the courier to reach the recipient. The card is free and can be left unsigned for anonymity, and payment by Visa or Mastercard is taken before assembly begins.

Twenty-five is an odd number, and across Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and most of the former Soviet Union an odd count goes to someone living, unlike the even counts kept for mourning. From here, the easiest way in is by the address the flowers are going to: a box or a basket for a desk or a hotel room, a wrapped bouquet for a home. Other rose counts sit alongside this one, all roses cover every colour and variety in the section, and the full flower catalogue opens beyond roses. Delivery zones are listed on the delivery page.
