Twenty-five roses in Bali: where the count lands and where it misses

This size has a narrow band of occasions it fits properly. Outside that band it either overshoots or falls short, and the count itself is what does it. Three cases cover most of what we build at this number.

Where it is the wrong choice

A quiet evening for two. The bouquet has to be put down before the conversation restarts, and putting flowers down is the moment a handover ends. An Ubud dinner for two people is exactly that case, and a smaller count does more there. Condolence is the other one, where restraint and a sober palette carry more than any number does.

There is a practical version of the same point. Twenty-five stems are taken with an arm underneath them, which leaves the recipient no free hand for a glass or a card, so the flowers get carried away to a vase almost at once. In a room full of guests that is fine, because the evening carries on around it. In a conversation between two people it is the end of the conversation.

The island road narrows the choice further.

Seminyak, Canggu and Sanur take 90 to 150 minutes, while Uluwatu, Tabanan and remote villas run up to 3 to 4 hours. On the long runs this count goes out in a box, because paper carrying that much weight for that long arrives creased down one side.
