Flower baskets by size in Bali: the small one needs more looking after
Scale changes the care instructions, and that part never appears on a product page. The water a basket carries is a function of the block underneath it, so two arrangements from the same bench can ask completely different things of the person receiving them. The result is the opposite of what most people assume, and it is worth knowing before the size is chosen.
Water and the small format
A small block of soaked foam holds a small amount of water and presents a large surface to a warm room. It dries quickly and wants topping up every morning.
A big block carries a reserve. It forgives a missed day, and in a large basket the material sits deeper, where the air reaches it more slowly.
So the little basket on a bedside table asks more attention than the substantial one standing by the door, even though it looks like the easier gift. That is worth saying out loud when the recipient is a guest on holiday who will be out most of the day.
Topping up is one action, done the same way at any size. Pour along the rim in a thin stream until the top of the foam stops taking water, then stop.

Heat, humidity and the drive
Climate pushes the same numbers further.
Above 30 °C and in the humidity that comes with it we wrap firmly and pack a cooling element, and the foam goes out fully soaked. A basket left in moving air on an open terrace loses water faster than the same basket indoors. From November to March the rain changes where an arrangement can stand more than how often it needs water, so a covered terrace beats an open one. Weight is the quick test of whether a base was soaked properly, because a wet block is heavy for its size. If a basket feels light when it arrives, say so at the door.
Distance matters for the large sizes. Seminyak, Canggu and Sanur are 90 to 150 minutes away, Uluwatu, Tabanan and remote villas up to 3 to 4 hours, and a floor arrangement travels the whole way upright and strapped, which is why we agree the delivery hour more precisely on those routes.

Choosing between them
Ask where it will stand, not what the occasion deserves. Three cases cover almost everything:
- A shared table people eat at, which wants something low, movable and small enough to talk across.
- An entrance, a hallway or the space beside a sofa, which can take a floor arrangement that stays put for its whole life.
- A hotel room in Nusa Dua, where the surface is usually a desk or a sill and the answer is the smallest of the three.
Composition follows from that. Macrophylla hydrangea and orchids fill a large basket without leaving gaps, tropical foliage frames the outline at any diameter, and roses hold their structure in a desk format where every head is seen from above. Seasonal peonies go into the larger builds, since they widen as they open and need the room.
