Baskets with lilies in Bali: scent decides the room
Fragrant lily varieties fill a space quickly and keep filling it for as long as the flowers stay open. That is a feature in one room and a problem in another, and the difference has very little to do with how much the recipient likes flowers. It comes down to how much air the room holds.
The volume of air settles it.
In a hall, a stairwell or a large sitting room the scent turns into a background that people stop noticing by the second day. In a small bedroom, a windowless meeting room or a shared ward it never settles at all. By evening the person living with it has stopped enjoying the gift and started thinking about where to move it. Nothing has gone wrong with the flowers at that point.
Dining tables are their own case. Sweet floral scent argues with food, so the arrangement usually goes onto a console or a side table while the table itself stays clear.
"The order I check twice is a lily basket for a bedroom. I ask how large the room is and how often the doors get opened."

Air conditioning shifts the answer more than floor area does. A cooled room with the doors shut recirculates the same air and holds the scent in it, while a house that lives with its doors open moves the scent outside almost as fast as the flowers make it. One basket reads as generous in the first house and as too much in the second.
What the arrangement asks for
The foam is soaked before assembly and it empties faster under lilies than under anything else we build. The stem is thick and juicy, the leaf broad and soft, and one branch loses more water to the air than several small flowers together. Pour a thin stream at the top edge until the surface stops taking it. Check with a fingertip at the rim each evening, since damp foam springs back and dry foam crumbles. Foam that has dried right through takes water back poorly, and the branch standing in it has already lost a day by the time anybody notices.
Anthers are the other recurring job, and a basket makes them worse than a vase does. The arrangement sits low, the flowers barely clear the rim, and orange powder lands on its own ribbon, moss and paper, none of which can be cleaned afterwards. Open flowers leave the workshop stripped, and every bud that unfolds later wants a tissue or small scissors within a few hours.
Powder already on a surface comes off with sticky tape. Rubbing or wetting it turns a loose dusting into a permanent mark.
There is one household we decline outright. Lilies are toxic to cats in every part, the water in the foam included, and a low basket is easy for an animal to reach, so an address with a cat gets a different composition and we say why.
How it works on the island
Seminyak, Canggu and Sanur sit in a 90 to 150 minute window, while Uluwatu, Tabanan and the remote villas take up to 3 to 4 hours. A closed lily basket is unusually good on a long road, because there is nothing open on it to bruise. We work 9 AM to 10 PM.
Above 30 °C and in high humidity we wrap the basket firmly and pack a cooling element for the drive. Indoors the calculation flips, since the split unit that makes a room comfortable is also the thing drawing water out of exposed foam. Keep the arrangement clear of that stream and out of direct sun.
Ocean villas, resort addresses in Seminyak and Canggu and dinners in Ubud all give this format the volume of air it wants. Orders start at 650000 IDR, and payment goes through QRIS, GoPay, OVO, DANA or cash to the courier.
Baskets with lilies in Bali need one piece of information more than any other, and it is the size of the room they are going into. Send that along with the district and the hour of the handover. From there we decide how many stems go into the bowl and how fragrant a variety that particular room can carry.
