Roses in boxes worldwide: how the box works and how long it lasts

Roses in boxes worldwide last about as long as the same roses in a vase, but only if the foam is watered daily across its whole open surface: foam that dries out barely takes water back. Choosing between the boxes on offer comes down to three things — the variety inside, the address it travels to, and who will be doing the watering once it arrives.

What a rose box is and how it differs from a bouquet

A boxed bouquet has no stems standing free in water. Each one is pushed into soaked floral foam lining the base, so the box needs no vase and no arranging: it goes straight onto a table or a desk as it comes out of the wrapping.

The round hat box, one of the shapes in the range, takes its form from the cardboard hatboxes people once used to carry and store hats. The shape carried over into flowers long after the hats themselves fell out of daily use.

The same idea shows up in other bouquet shapes nearby in the section. A purse holds a smaller cluster of white roses inside a bag-shaped shell, and a jute planter wraps the foam in woven fabric instead of card. The mechanics underneath — foam, water, no vase — stay the same; only the outer shell changes.

Ecuadorian roses grow high in the Andes, at around 2,800 to 3,000 metres, where the day length stays close to twelve hours all year round.

A French rose is not a variety and not a country of origin. The name describes a technique: the florist bends the outer petals back by hand, so the flower opens into a looser, fuller shape than it would on its own.

Jumilia roses carry a bud that opens up to seven centimetres across, white at the base and pink along the petal edge. With proper care they can last up to two weeks, longer than most roses in the range.

Beyond these, the full rose section holds white boxes, red boxes sold under names such as Senorita, mixed boxes that combine several colours, and a handful of boxes carrying their own name rather than a description of what is inside.

Sending a rose box to a hotel, an office or a hospital

Hotels, offices and hospitals each accept the box differently: hotel staff deliver it to the room or hold it at reception, an office needs the company name and floor, and many hospital wards don't allow live flowers at all. No street address is needed — the recipient's phone number is enough.

How long a rose box lasts and how to water the foam

Roses in a box last about a week on average, sometimes stretching to ten days; Jumilia roses can hold on for up to two weeks. The foam, not the box, is what keeps them going that long.

Watering means a thin stream poured over the whole open surface of the foam, every day, without tipping the box to one side. Foam that has been allowed to dry out barely takes water back, however much is poured on afterwards.

Where the box stands matters almost as much as the watering. It should sit away from radiators, out of direct sun, and away from a bowl of ripening fruit, which speeds up how quickly cut flowers age.

Every box is put together to order, and the roses themselves are bought only once the order has been paid for. A photo of the finished box goes to the sender before the courier sets off, and any change can still be requested up to that point; if a rose is swapped for another shade, that substitution shows up in the same photo.

Delivery within the centre is free; other zones carry a fixed fee set out in the delivery terms and zones, added to the total before payment is taken. The card that travels with the box costs nothing extra and can be signed or left anonymous, and the recipient is not called ahead to warn them it is coming.

Payment is taken by Visa or Mastercard, and the figure shown in the cart is the final one. Most boxes go out on the same day the order is placed; exact timing for a given box is shown on its own page rather than promised here.

Roses in boxes cover most of what a boxed bouquet does worldwide, but the wider catalogue has more shapes to compare: other bouquet shapes sit alongside the boxes, and the full rose section covers everything from loose stems to arrangements. For anything outside roses, all flowers is the wider catalogue, and the delivery terms and zones page lays out fees and coverage by area.
