First day of term balloons: an hour of decor in the morning
The first day of term runs as a short event on a tight schedule. An assembly lasts about an hour, happens in the morning, and usually takes place outdoors. Decoration for it is built to go up quickly and to survive an open site.
The requirements follow. Structures have to handle wind, be installed early, and come down within minutes of the end.
Formats for an assembly
- An arch at the school entrance, as the main point of decoration.
- Fountains on weights along the line where classes stand.
- Clusters in school colours for the stage.
- Small clusters for first year pupils, sized so a child can hold one alone.
Install everything before the children arrive. A schoolyard fills quickly that morning, and assembling anything in a crowd becomes impossible.
Palettes usually follow the school colours or stay in a neutral pale range. Busy multicolour schemes look chaotic in group photographs.
Outdoor considerations
Wind is the main factor. Light structures fall over and clusters escape from children's hands, so weights are chosen with margin.
Sun heats dark balloons, and by the end of an assembly some of them burst. A pale palette is more reliable in that respect.
Nothing goes in the path of movement. The yard is crowded that day, and clear routes matter more than volume.
Keep children's clusters compact. A large one makes it impossible to hold a bouquet and a schoolbag at the same time.
Early September weather is unpredictable, so a fallback deserves some thought in advance. In rain latex slips out of hands and paper elements soak through within minutes.
Decide separately what happens to the balloons afterwards. Some schools pass them to the youngest classes, which beats carting structures back again.
Decor on this day lasts an hour and survives forever in photographs. Plan it for the frame.
Practical notes
Helium balloons hold their lift for a limited period, which is confirmed when ordering. Framed structures do not depend on lift.
This is a peak date, so order early. Morning delivery windows fill quickly.
Clear burst balloons immediately, particularly near the youngest classes.
If decor crosses your city on that morning, allow generous margin in the delivery time.
