Fruit and flowers worldwide: one basket, two places to keep them
Fruit and flowers worldwide arrive together in one basket, even though florists usually keep cut flowers away from ripe fruit because of the ethylene it gives off. The basket works as a single gift for a table or a family home, and separating its contents only matters once it has been handed over. The florist photographs the basket before the courier leaves, the card is free and can be left unsigned, and fruit and flowers delivery has the current times and prices.
Keeping fruit and flowers fresh once the basket arrives
Once the basket is unpacked, the fruit belongs in a bowl or the kitchen, and the flowers do better in another room, or at least standing well clear of the fruit. If the flowers are loose in water or moved into a vase, cut each stem at an angle with a sharp knife or secateurs, strip off any leaves that would sit below the waterline, and change the water every day or two. Keep the vase away from ripe fruit, radiators and direct sun.
If the flowers are set in foam rather than water, water the foam daily with a thin stream over its whole surface and avoid tilting the basket.
Anyone after a basket of flowers alone can look at flower baskets, and a gift without flowers in it sits under gift baskets.
