Fruit and flower baskets in Phuket: fruit does not share attention evenly
Two materials go into one container and their proportion decides what kind of present arrives. Nobody discusses it at the counter. People talk about which fruit and which flowers, agree on a size, and then find that what turns up reads as a hamper with a few stems pushed into the top, or as an arrangement with an apologetic piece of fruit beside it.
The reason is physical rather than a matter of taste. Set equal volumes of each side by side and the fruit still wins the eye. Its surfaces are glossy and its colours saturated and unbroken, so a cut melon or a bunch of grapes reads as one solid block, while flowers break light into a hundred small pieces and read as texture rather than as mass. An even split by volume therefore does not look even at all.
Which means a build meant to feel floral needs the flowers to outweigh the fruit visibly, not merely to match it. A build meant to feel edible can carry very few stems and still look generous, and that is worth knowing before anyone pays for more flowers than the basket will show.

Where these go on the island
West coast addresses sit in a 90 to 180 minute window, and villas, marinas and the airport get their own. The working day runs 9 AM to 10 PM, orders start at 2200 THB, and payment goes by bank card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PromptPay, bank transfer or cash in baht.
Four addresses take most of what we build in this format:

- A resort birthday, where the arrangement has to look right on a counter for the evening and the fruit is an accent rather than the point.
- A dinner by the sea, delivered to a laid table and taken apart in front of everybody.
- A family date at a private house, the one case where either proportion works.
Airport arrivals are the exception, and we say so at the order. A basket that has to be carried through a terminal in one hand puts both halves through a journey that suits neither, and for that scenario there are better things to send.
Movement within the island counts as well. A basket carried from a hotel room out to a boat, or across to a second address later in the day, puts the floral half through more than the original drive did, while the fruit takes that without complaint.
Air at 25 to 33 °C with tropical humidity gives the edible half hours rather than a day, which is why the two sides are built to lift apart in one movement and why we schedule these deliveries to a named time rather than to a window. During monsoon showers from May to October and on evening hill traffic we take the extra route time out of the assembly rather than out of the road, so the basket is built later and leaves closer to the hour.

Thai orchids and tropical foliage hold the floral half longest in this air, chrysanthemums are the last thing left standing in the bowl, and imported roses carry the mass where the flowers have to outweigh the food. Fruit and flower baskets in Phuket are worth ordering with the proportion said out loud, since it is the one instruction that cannot be corrected after the basket is built.
