Flower baskets by size in Phuket: what changes at the bench as the diameter grows
Two baskets built from the same flowers by the same florist are not one object made larger and smaller. Scale changes the way the thing has to be constructed, and most of that work is invisible in the finished arrangement. It explains the price gap better than the flower count does.
Small baskets are judged from above
A compact arrangement is seen from close range and from directly overhead. Calibration is everything there: heads at even heights, no gap showing the foam, stems set at consistent angles around the rim.
There is nowhere to hide in something the size of two palms. Every hole between buds shows from the top, and a head sitting slightly low reads as a mistake rather than as movement.
That is slow work for a small object, which surprises people looking at the price.
Large baskets are judged from across a room
Nobody sees the individual seating at that size. Everyone sees the silhouette, and a silhouette that size needs internal structure to hold it up. Tropical foliage goes in first as a frame, the heavier material sits low, and the centre has to be supported or the dome sags inward over the first two days.
Density works against the builder as the volume rises. The same number of stems that reads as generous in a small basket disappears in a large one, and filling a large one honestly takes considerably more material than the difference in diameter suggests.

How that lands on the island
Local material does a lot of the structural work here. Tropical foliage sets the outline, hydrangeas fill width quickly at the larger diameters, Thai orchids carry height without weight, and chrysanthemums close the rim where bare foam would otherwise show. Roses hold their shape at every size, which is why they end up in both formats. Seasonal peonies belong in the large builds, where there is room for them to widen. The smaller the basket, the more each of those choices shows.
Delivery runs 9 AM to 10 PM, and the west coast window is 90 to 180 minutes, covering Patong, Kata, Karon, Kamala, Surin and Bang Tao alongside Phuket Town, Rawai and Chalong. Villas, marinas and airport routes have separate windows, and a large basket is loaded upright and strapped for the whole of that drive.
Weather adds the rest. At the usual 25 to 33 °C the foam goes out fully soaked, monsoon showers from May to October add time to a route, and a big arrangement goes into a villa more easily with a second pair of hands waiting.
Resort addresses are where the size question gets practical. A room at The Slate Phuket or Veranda Resort Phuket has a desk or a sill and not much else, while a villa terrace or a ceremony space takes the floor format easily, and the same occasion can call for either depending only on the address.
