New baby flowers in Phuket: the fortnight nobody sends into
Almost everyone sends on day one. The ward fills with visitors, arrangements arrive within an hour of each other, and the family goes home a couple of days later carrying more than fits in the car. The gift is real and the timing is the problem, because everything landed in the same afternoon.
Two weeks later the same gift lands differently
By then the visitors have gone and the grandparents have flown home. The household is working out its own rhythm with very little help, and anything that arrives at that point is remembered far longer than what came into the crowd of the first day. Waiting costs nothing, since this occasion carries no deadline the way a birthday does. The date is not printed anywhere and nobody is counting.
Nothing about this occasion expires.
On the island the timing question has a second layer. Families here are often on a temporary address, and the villa or hotel they were in during the first week may not be where they are in the third, so we confirm the address again rather than reuse the one from the original order.
Where it goes
New baby flowers in Phuket go to four kinds of address, and the address decides more about the build than the palette does. These four cover almost everything we send for this occasion:
- a maternity ward, where cut stems are sometimes not accepted at all and the answer differs between buildings
- a rented villa on the west coast: the courier is met at the gate, and the house number is rarely visible from the road
- a hotel room, most often Rosewood Phuket, The Slate Phuket, Trisara, Banyan Tree Phuket or Veranda Resort Phuket, where the handover is arranged before the van leaves
- a longer term apartment in Phuket Town or Chalong, which is the straightforward case.
Patong, Kata, Karon, Kamala, Surin and Bang Tao sit in a 90 to 180 minute window, with Phuket Town, Rawai, Chalong and Mai Khao on the same board and separate windows for villas, marinas and airport runs. We deliver 9 AM to 10 PM, orders start at 2200 THB, and payment goes by bank card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PromptPay, bank transfer or cash in baht.
Between May and October we add route time for monsoon showers and evening hill traffic. Book the middle of the morning or the middle of the afternoon in any season, since a newborn household sleeps in fragments and an evening doorbell helps nobody.
What goes in it
Nothing strongly scented goes into these, and nothing that drops pollen onto white bedding. Thai orchids do most of the work, holding a line for weeks and carrying no scent at all, with hydrangeas for mass and chrysanthemums where an even head is wanted. Imported roses come in only in cream, blush or pale peach, and tropical foliage keeps the outline from collapsing when the piece is moved with one hand. Build it low, with the base wider than the top, because the surfaces near a cot are crowded and things get knocked over.
"The order that works best is the one placed for the second week. By then the room is quiet and somebody actually has a hand free to take the box."
