Small flower baskets in Dubai: the only format a desk can take
A desk is a hostile environment for flowers. There is a keyboard, a monitor stand, papers that move around through the day, a mug that gets refilled and put back down in a slightly different place. Somewhere in the middle of that, a courier is expected to leave a gift.
Watch what happens when the gift is a wrapped bouquet. It lies diagonally across half the surface, because there is nowhere to stand it and nowhere to put it down flat. The person it was sent to now has a small problem instead of a present, and the problem is public, because everyone walking past can see it. Most of them will offer advice about it.
A basket the size of a mug does none of that.
It goes down beside the monitor, it takes the footprint of a coffee cup, and the surface around it carries on being used. Nothing has to be moved to accommodate it. Nobody has to leave a meeting to deal with it, and nobody quietly becomes responsible for finding a vase in a building that does not own one. That last part is worth more than it sounds in an office tower, where the nearest vase is usually a taxi ride away. The gift stays a gift rather than turning into an errand.
The end of the week
At the end of the week it goes home without being taken apart. A basket travels in a car footwell upright and arrives in the same condition it left in, which is more than can be said for a tall vase full of water. Whoever received it does not have to choose between abandoning the flowers and carrying a dripping bundle through a lobby.
That single detail decides a lot of these orders. Flowers sent to a workplace are almost always seen by more people than the recipient, and how they leave the building is part of how the gift is remembered.
Which desks these go to
DIFC and Business Bay account for most of what we send in this size. Business handovers make up a good share of it, and so do family dates that happen to fall on a working day, where the sender wants the gesture to land at the office rather than wait until the evening. Reception counters take them too, though a counter can carry something wider. A hotel room in Downtown, Marina or Palm Jumeirah is the other regular address, where the surface is a desk or a sill and the answer is the same.
Four things are worth telling us:
- The exact surface it is going onto, described as a desk, a counter or a sill.
- Whether the recipient is in the building every day.
- Whether anyone else should be able to hand it over if they are out.
- Whether it needs to survive a trip home at the end of the week.
Delivery runs 2 to 4 hours and we work 9 AM to 10 PM. Orders start at 250 AED, paid by Apple Pay or in cash to the courier. Dutch roses at 60 to 90 cm go into this size cut short, and greenhouse tulips and chrysanthemums from the UAE fill the body of it.
Summer is the one thing that changes. At up to 40 °C with high coastal humidity, the base goes out fully soaked and the whole thing travels in insulated packing, because a small block has a small reserve and there is nothing spare in it.
