Anything taller than a seated person's chin turns a dinner into two separate conversations, and the arrangement gets moved to a windowsill inside the hour, which in this city is the worst place in the flat for it. Floor baskets are a different order of object altogether. They begin roughly where a table version ends, they want a corner or the space beside a doorway, and they read from across a room. That last quality is what makes them the standard choice for premises rather than for homes. Small apartments are where this goes wrong most often.
