Roses by colour in Dubai: the variety name is the real order

Buckets of roses in several close shades of pink and peach in a Dubai workshop

Ask a florist for the same peach roses you sent in the spring and you will get a careful pause. The shade was a variety, that variety came in on a particular week, and the peach standing in the bucket today is a different plant with a different name and a slightly different tone. Nobody is being evasive when they hesitate.

Anyone who orders flowers regularly runs into this sooner or later. It is the single most useful thing to understand about colour.

A shade is a plant

Rose colour comes from breeding. Each named variety carries its own tone, its own petal count and its own habit, and a grower plants it years before anybody buys a stem of it.

None of that is adjustable at the counter.

So the thing worth noting after a delivery you liked is the variety name, not the word for the colour. A florist holding that name can order the same plant again or, when it is unavailable, pick the nearest relative on purpose instead of guessing what somebody meant by coral. We put the name in the order confirmation for exactly that reason, and repeat customers here quote it back to us months later.

Growing conditions move the tone as well. The same variety arrives a shade deeper after cold nights on the plantation and paler out of a warm season, which is why two boxes of the identical rose bought months apart never quite line up side by side.

Four kinds of order make the variety name worth keeping:

  • A regular delivery to the same person, where each bouquet is compared with the last one.
  • An office standing order in DIFC, where the flowers sit in the same room every week.
  • A wedding or a family date planned months ahead.
  • Anything matched to a fixed colour, such as a table setting or a company palette, where a close relative of the right variety will do the job and a rough guess at the shade will not.

How that works with delivery here

Timing is the practical side of it. Rare shades depend on what arrived in the last box, so a specific variety is worth asking about several days in advance.

Common tones are almost always on the bench. Delivery takes 2 to 4 hours across Downtown, Marina, JBR, Business Bay, Palm Jumeirah and DIFC, and we confirm the variety before the bouquet is built. If the exact plant is not in the cold room, we say which relative we are proposing and how it differs. That conversation takes a minute over a message and saves the one that starts with a photograph of the delivered bouquet. Substitution is normal in this trade; substitution without telling anyone is what people actually object to.

Summer adds one line to that conversation. At up to 40 °C every box goes out with insulated packing and out of direct sun, and no colour work survives a bouquet left on a hot counter.

Dutch roses reach us at 60 to 90 cm and the Ecuadorian line runs to 120 cm, and the two groups carry different colour ranges. A shade available in one is not automatically available in the other, which is where most substitutions come from.

Orders start at 250 AED, paid by Apple Pay or in cash to the courier, and we deliver from 9 AM to 10 PM.

"The customers who get the same colour twice are the ones who kept the variety name. Everybody else describes a photograph to us and hopes."

Send us the name if you have it, and a physical sample if you do not: a ribbon or a scrap of fabric held against a real stem tells us more than any screen. We will name what we cut, so the next order starts from a plant rather than from a word.
