### Green roses in Dubai: the shade belongs to the room, not to the photograph No other rose colour depends so heavily on where it ends up standing. Red stays red under a lamp, at a window and in a picture. A green head moves between grey, cream and lime according to whatever is lighting it, and the person who ordered from a screen at midnight is often surprised by the flower that reaches the table. The colour itself is steady. Everything around it is what shifts. Four settings cover most of what we deliver, and they produce four different flowers: - a warm household or hotel bulb, which brings the yellow forward until the head reads close to young foliage; - flat daylight through a north facing window, where the same rose turns cool and dusty and lands nearer grey than leaf; - an evening table, which takes the green out almost completely and leaves something most guests will call ivory; - bright overhead lighting in an office, the one setting that flattens the shade and shows it at its least interesting. None of this happens to a white rose. White stays white in all four rooms, which catches out anyone matching flowers to a fixed palette and explains most of the disappointment this colour produces. So the working rule for an event is simple. Look at the shade in the room where the flowers will stand, at the hour they will be seen, rather than at eight in the morning on a bright workbench. #### Where these orders actually land Offices take more of them than homes do. DIFC and Business Bay run on overhead lighting all day, so we build with volume rather than with subtlety: a dozen heads together hold their own under a ceiling panel, while three of them scattered through a mixed bunch disappear by lunchtime. Hotel rooms are the opposite problem. Address Downtown and Four Seasons light their rooms warm, which pushes the head towards lime and reads much greener than the product photograph did, and guests who chose the colour for its coolness notice within a minute of walking in. Delivery across the city takes 2-4 hours and we work from 9 AM to 10 PM. Orders start at 250 AED, with payment by Apple Pay or cash to the courier. Downtown and Marina addresses tend to be evening handovers, DIFC ones happen during working hours, and we pick the stage of the head accordingly. Palm Jumeirah is where the whole question comes up most often. Flowers ordered for a villa dinner get looked at twice, once in daylight while the table is being laid and again after dark under whatever the hosts switch on, and those are two different bouquets unless somebody decided in advance which one matters. We ask that question at the point of order, and the answer changes both the count and the company we put around the roses. #### Heat, and what it does to the box Summer air here reaches 40 °C and the coast adds humidity on top. We pack with an insulated liner and the box never sits in the sun, not at the loading point and not on the doorstep. A courier waiting in the open with a box is the part of the trip we plan around. Summer handovers get agreed to an hour rather than to a window, and we ask that somebody be at the door, since the minutes spent standing outside cost more than the drive itself. > "People choose green from a picture taken in a studio.
