### Strawberries with flowers in Dubai: the wall between the two halves Two things share this box and neither one improves the other. Fruit gives off juice wherever it is pressed. Stems give off water wherever they stand, and the whole build is an argument about keeping those two facts apart for the length of a journey. A divider does that work. It is the least photogenic part of the box and the part that decides whether the gift arrives as it was made. #### What the divider actually does A film wall, a card edge or a raised tray runs between the fruit side and the stems in any sensibly built box, and it stands taller than the top of the berries. Juice from a pressed berry marks a pale petal permanently, so a single tilted corner on the road can cost you the flowers rather than the fruit. Water travelling the other way is the commoner problem: it runs down a stem, reaches the tray below and softens the coating on the dipped pieces sitting there. Stems therefore go into sealed vials or into damp foam that has been wrapped rather than left open, because open foam next to food smells of damp within hours. Nothing should lie across the boundary in either direction, and that includes leaves. Foliage across the fruit is the clearest sign of a build made for a photograph. So is a bloom carrying open pollen, which travels onto everything beneath it and ends the fruit half of the gift before anyone touches it. > "The build that fails is always the pretty one. The berry has a faint scent of its own, and it reads clearly beside a quiet flower and disappears beside a strong one. Taste has little to do with the choice here; the question is what the recipient is about to eat, so the stems that suit this format are the calm ones with firm heads that hold their shape. Chrysanthemum sits in that group comfortably, and roses do too, in the 60 to 90 cm Dutch grades or the longer Ecuadorian ones cut down for the tray. Tulips are the case worth naming. The greenhouse crop reaches us in good condition, and inside a closed box in this climate it keeps growing, leans out of position and drops petals into the fruit. When somebody asks for them anyway we say what will happen by the time the lid is opened. #### What this means in a Dubai summer Summer air here runs to 40 °C with high humidity along the coast, which raises the temperature inside a closed box faster than most people expect. We add insulated packing and keep the box out of direct sun while the courier waits, and delivery across the city takes 2 to 4 hours. Booking runs 9 AM to 10 PM. Evening slots suit this format better, because the box then goes straight from a cold bag to a table instead of standing somewhere warm. Where it lands matters as much as when. Homes in Marina, JBR and Downtown are the straightforward case, hotel rooms at Address Downtown or Four Seasons need the guest to be in, and a DIFC office only works when the recipient is at their desk. We hand these over in person, and if that is not possible we move the slot. Orders start from 250 AED, and payment goes by Apple Pay or in cash to the courier.
