Baskets with peonies in Dubai: a short season and a long summer
The peony season is short and everybody knows it, so a peony gift carries a sense of timing that a rose does not. Here that runs into a summer reaching 40 °C with coastal humidity on top. The two calendars never line up, and this format is partly an answer to the gap.

Sending peonies as a basket means the recipient loses none of that short window to preparation. Nothing is unwrapped, nothing is cut, and nobody goes hunting for a container. That matters at an office, a hospital ward or a hotel room, where there is no vase and no sink worth using. The flowers are drinking on the road and drinking on the desk. In a city where a wrapped bouquet left on a reception counter for an afternoon is a real risk, that is the practical argument for the whole format.
Orders start at 250 AED and payment goes by Apple Pay or cash to the courier. Delivery across the city runs 2 to 4 hours.

Three rooms it was built for
Three rooms account for most of these orders.
- A reception desk in DIFC or Business Bay, where nobody has ever owned a vase.
- A hotel room at Address Downtown or Four Seasons, standing there before the guest gets back.
- A recovery room, where a jug of water once a day is the whole of the care anyone can give it.
Baskets with peonies in Dubai also travel better than loose stems. Foam grips a thick stem hard, and a heavy head that would loll about in a vase stays at the angle it was given.
A villa on Palm Jumeirah is the one address where the shape changes rather than the timing. The arrangement gets read from across a room there, so the container goes up a size and the planting spreads wider instead of taller.
Summer sets the packing more than it sets the calendar. The arrangement leaves us soaked through, travels in insulated packing, and never stands in the sun at any stop on the route. What ruins one is a parked car, and we say that out loud at the handover.
Indoors the enemy changes, because a dry stream from an air conditioning vent pulls water out of exposed foam faster than the street ever does. Keep the basket clear of the vent and clear of the window, and top it up at the edge daily until the foam stops taking any.
Peonies reach the UAE as Dutch stock outside the season, in batches. Dutch roses at 60 to 90 cm carry the structure of the build. Greenhouse tulips or chrysanthemums sit near the rim through the winter, where the composition wants a firm shoulder.
We work 9 AM to 10 PM. For a hot afternoon we plant the buds tighter, so the arrangement opens at the address instead of on the road.
That single decision is where most of the season question gets settled. A tight ball looks modest on the day it arrives and holds the arrangement together for a week, while a half open head photographs beautifully at the door and is finished by the weekend. Neither one is a better flower. They answer different questions, and the question is usually about a date somebody has already fixed.
Family dates and business handovers both take this format, and what separates them is the hour rather than the build. A meeting room piece goes out in the morning while the floors are full.
