Almost nothing about a basket at a wedding is a gift decision. These are pieces of set dressing. They arrive built, come in through a service door and go down in an order somebody worked out days earlier, and their whole working life happens in a window nobody photographs.
They get chosen because they solve a problem the venue created.
A basket brings its own water in a block of soaked foam, stands free on its own base and needs no plinth, no plumbing and no fixing to anything at all. Read what a hotel forbids in its event contract and the list is almost exactly those things: nails in panelling, tape on paint, water containers standing above a timber floor, anything obstructing a fire exit or a service run. An arrangement that stands on its own and can be lifted away by one person clears all of it without a conversation.
That matters more in this city than in most, because the venues here are large hotels with strict operations teams. Address Downtown, Atlantis The Palm, Four Seasons and Burj Al Arab all run weddings to a written brief, and a florist who turns up with something requiring a fixing point is sent to find a different solution while the room is still empty.
Positions get marked before the flowers come in
Set the places first, then bring the arrangements to them. A basket put down, considered and shifted three times drags its base across the floor, and on polished timber or a pale carpet that mark stays for the rest of the day and shows in every wide photograph taken from the back of the room.
Symmetry is the thing that gets fixed too late. A pair either side of an aisle or an arch is photographed together in one frame, so a difference in height that nobody notices standing between them is obvious in every picture.
Four things are worth settling with the venue before delivery day:
- The service entrance and the hour it is staffed, since a wedding delivery cannot queue behind a lunch order.
- The exact positions, marked on the floor rather than described on a plan.
- Whether any part of the set stands outdoors, and for how long.
- Who has authority to move an arrangement once it is placed.
The outdoor question is the one that changes the build. In summer heat reaching 40 °C with high coastal humidity, an arrangement standing on a terrace for the afternoon needs a larger water block and different material from the same piece indoors, and that decision has to be made at the quote and not on the morning.
Delivery across the city runs 2 to 4 hours and the working day is 9 AM to 10 PM, though wedding installs are booked to a fixed hour rather than a window. Orders start at 250 AED, with payment by Apple Pay or cash to the courier.
