Peony bouquets in Dubai: how to read the build in ten seconds
A peony hides poor work better than most flowers. The heads are large, they sit close together, and a full bunch reads as generous from two paces away even when the inside of it is a mess.
Look at it from the side instead of the front. The heads should form a slight dome, each one a little lower than its neighbour towards the edge, with no bloom sunk into the shoulder of another. A sunken head means the spiral was tied in a hurry and stems were pushed in wherever a gap showed, and within a day the buried one bruises where it presses.
Then turn the bunch upside down. The stem ends should sit in a tight fan, cut to roughly the same length on a clean angle. Ragged ends, some crushed flat and some cut straight across, come from blunt secateurs, and a crushed stem draws water badly for the rest of its life. Peony stems are thick and full of sap, so the damage is easy to see once you know to look for it. Run a thumb along one and a good stem feels round rather than flattened.
A blackened band above the cut matters.
It means the stems stood in dirty water before they reached you. That is far easier to raise while the courier is still at the door than after the flowers fail on day three.
What arrives here, and when
Dutch peonies come to Dubai outside their season, in small quantities and by batch. Availability and date therefore lead every conversation about them. The stage of the bud depends on what landed that week, which is worth asking about before payment.
Dutch roses at 60 to 90 cm are the usual companion, since they hold the frame while the peony supplies the volume. Ecuadorian roses up to 120 cm pull the outline upward and suit the flower less well, and greenhouse chrysanthemums from the UAE go in only as a firm support near the tie.
Four things shape the order more than the flower list does:
- The district, since the route runs Downtown, Business Bay and DIFC on one leg and Marina, JBR and Palm Jumeirah on another.
- The hour of the handover.
- Whether anyone will be there to put the stems in water within the hour.
- The bud stage you want, open or closed, because that decides which batch the bunch comes from.
Delivery takes 2 to 4 hours and we work 9 AM to 10 PM on GMT+4. Orders start from 250 AED, with payment by Apple Pay or cash to the courier.
Heat is the second inspection
Summer here reaches 40 °C with humidity along the coast, and a peony responds to warmth faster than anything else in the wrap. A bunch that leaves closed can arrive noticeably open if it sits in a car for an hour, so we send the tighter batch to the longer routes and keep the box shut and insulated until the handover.
Hotels are the shortest journey a peony can have. Burj Al Arab, Atlantis The Palm, Address Downtown and Four Seasons take the delivery at the property, so the flowers reach cool air quickly. An office in DIFC is the opposite, since there is rarely a vase on the floor and the bunch spends its first afternoon lying on its side.
"I would rather be asked about the stem ends than about the shade of pink. One of those I can promise, and the other arrives however the batch arrived."

Peony bouquets in Dubai are worth ordering against a batch date as much as a delivery hour. Tell us the district, the hour and whether the recipient will be home, and we will match the bud stage to the journey the bunch has to make.
