Mixed peonies in Dubai: the second half of the week
By the fourth day the early openers are wide rosettes and the slow doubles have caught up to roughly where the first group stood on day two. The bunch has stopped being a set of separate flowers and become one mass.
This is also when it is at its widest, often half again the size it was on arrival. Nothing has been added. The same stems simply take up far more room than they did in the box.
Anyone who bought a vase to fit the delivered bouquet discovers the problem at this stage, and it is not a problem that can be solved by pushing the stems closer together.

Orders start at 250 AED and payment goes through Apple Pay or cash to the courier, which is the quick part. Choosing the container takes longer and matters more.
Ending it in the right order
A mixed bunch finishes the way it started. The flowers that opened first are the first to drop, and the sensible move is to pull them out as they go instead of waiting for the whole thing to finish together.
There is no sudden collapse to wait for either. Peonies leave one at a time across several days, and a bunch that arrived with fifteen heads can still look deliberate at nine, provided the gaps get closed up as they appear.
Three habits get the last two or three days out of it:
- Take out a spent head as soon as it starts shedding, since the remaining flowers look better with space around them.
- Refill rather than top up, because the water level falls fast once the heads are wide and drinking.
- Move the vase somewhere cooler for the night if the room warms up during the day.
What the climate does to that timetable
The whole arc above assumes an ordinary indoor temperature. In a hot desert climate that reaches 40 °C in summer, with high humidity along the coast, the arc compresses: day four behaviour can turn up on day two, and the slow doubles that were supposed to carry the second half of the week arrive at the same place as everyone else.
An air conditioned room mostly restores the original schedule. That is the single most useful thing to know about keeping a mix here, and it is worth saying to the recipient rather than assuming they will work it out.
In summer we pack insulated and keep the box out of the sun, and delivery takes 2 to 4 hours across Downtown, Business Bay, Marina, JBR, DIFC and Palm Jumeirah. A long run in the afternoon costs a mix more than it costs a single variety bunch, because the fast half of the bunch does most of the reacting.
Offices are the hardest address for this flower. A mix delivered to a desk in DIFC spends its first hours closed in a box, and the time it loses at the start comes off the end of the week rather than off the middle.
Peonies come to Dubai from Holland outside their season, so the mix in any given week is drawn from what the shipment carried. A palette confirmed on Monday for a Saturday delivery is a different conversation from one confirmed for tomorrow.
Buy the vase for the end state: wide neck, wide base, deep enough that the water level does not vanish overnight. Peony stems are thick and almost unbendable, a mixed bunch carries more of them than a single variety bunch of the same visual weight, and a narrow opening forces the lot into a wedge that splays apart exactly when the flowers are at their best.
