Warmth and humidity decide how fast this arrangement moves through its week. At 25 to 33 °C an open cup reaches full width sooner than the same basket would in a cooler room, and the days that follow are where most of the value sits. Almost all of it comes down to two small jobs.

The week after that
Outer petals bruise at the edges before the flower is finished. Take them off one at a time with your fingers and the bloom stays clean, smaller than it was but still worth looking at. A spent head is cut off level with the foam instead of pulled out by the stem. The gap it leaves is covered with a leaf, since foam does not seal itself and that spot no longer holds water. A fresh flower pushed into an old socket finds nothing to drink and folds within the day.
Neither job needs anything beyond a pair of scissors. Both are the difference between an arrangement that gives up early and one that finishes its week looking composed.

Deliveries along the west coast sit in a 90 to 180 minute window, with separate windows for villas, marinas and airport routes. The rainy season runs May to October and we add route time for it, as we do for evening traffic on the hill roads. A basket takes those extra minutes without complaint, since the stems are drinking the whole way.
Heat is what shortens the week, and it does its work indoors. A room on the west coast that catches the afternoon sun dries petal edges into a papery crust within hours. A shaded shelf a few steps away behaves entirely differently. That short distance is worth more than any change of variety.
Three places it keeps its week
Three spots on the island give it the full run.
- A shaded corner of a villa terrace, out of the afternoon sun.
- A side table in a resort room, clear of the air conditioning stream.
- A hallway in a house in Phuket Town, where the light stays even all day.
Direct sun and a cold dry vent do the same damage from opposite directions. Between the two, still warm air is the safer choice for this flower.
Airport arrivals are the one scenario where none of this can be arranged in advance. The arrangement gets carried through a terminal and then sits in a car, so for that trip we plant the heads at a tighter stage and build the bowl smaller, and the opening happens later in the room.
Imported roses arrive by batch, and the garden types go into the bowl with hydrangea holding volume between the cups. Chrysanthemums firm up the rim where a plain edge is needed. Tropical foliage covers the foam right around the circle.
The build leaves us looser than it looks in a photograph, with visible space between the heads. Those gaps close on their own by the third day.
