Peonies by colour in Phuket: what each shade says before anyone reads the card
Colour arrives ahead of the message. Somebody sees the bouquet across a lobby and has decided what it means before the envelope is open, and no wording on a card undoes that first read. Choosing the shade is part of choosing what you are saying.
White and ivory carry the formal end. Weddings, condolences, anything where restraint is the point. They also photograph better than anything else in the range, which is why they turn up in so much event work. On an island that runs on small weddings and anniversaries, that combination keeps them busy.
Pale pink is the default gift shade. Warm without being loud, and it is what most people picture when peonies are mentioned.
Crimson and deep magenta read as romantic in the way red roses do, with rather less obviousness about it. An anniversary dinner by the sea is the classic order for them. They also survive a long drive better than the pale end, which counts for more here than it would in a city.

Coral has no fixed meaning, and that is its advantage. It is the shade to send when you would rather nothing in particular were attached to the flowers. Resort birthdays take more coral than any other occasion for exactly that reason. It also sits between the two ends of the range, which makes it easy to build around.
One caution about coral. It moves further than any other shade as the flower opens, so an order placed for a date three days out will not reach that date in the colour it left as.

How the occasions divide on this island
Airport arrivals want a shade that reads instantly and travels closed, and deep pink does both. Small weddings want white and ivory, ordered early, because seasonal peonies come in batches and a white batch is never guaranteed in a given week. Family dates split by room: a villa with dark interiors takes pale, a bright resort room takes deep. Dinners by the sea are decided by the table rather than by the message. A low arrangement in strong colour holds the eye where a pale one is lost against the water.
The west coast runs 90 to 180 minutes, with separate windows for villas, marinas and airport routes. We work 9 AM to 10 PM.
Air at 25 to 33 °C with island humidity shortens every colour decision. A closed ball opens on warmth and almost every variety lightens as it goes, so the shade chosen is the shade of the first day. Monsoon showers between May and October and evening traffic on the hill roads add time to a route, and time in a warm van counts the same as time in a warm room. For a fixed date we build from the deep reds, which lose least.
Pale petals also show every mark. A thumbprint from handling, or a drop of water caught between petals, turns brown within a day, and on a long route that is the difference between a bouquet arriving well and one arriving nearly well. Darker varieties travel far more forgivingly.
