### Coffee roses in Phuket: the group that hides its own faults A white rose declares every problem it has. A bruise goes brown, a bent petal edge turns grey, and anyone standing across the room can see it. Muted beige and brown cultivars do the exact opposite, and that is the one genuinely awkward thing about them. The marks that ageing leaves on a rose are all brownish. On a petal that is already sand, clay or cocoa, a browning edge lands within a step of the natural colour, so a head several days past its best still reads as intentional at arm's length. The flower has not stopped ageing. It has only stopped announcing it. Handling marks behave the same way. A thumbprint on a pale petal shows as a slightly darker smudge, which on any other colour would be obvious and here simply looks like part of the variety. None of that makes the flowers worse. It means a quick glance at the heads tells you very little, and on an island where most orders are placed by somebody who will never see the bouquet, that cuts in four directions at once: - a box that spent three hours on the road arrives looking untouched, which is why we suggest this group for the longer runs; - an airport handover, where the bunch is carried through a terminal and then driven again, costs it nothing visible; - a recipient who is out for the day will not find scuff marks waiting when they get back; - and the same forgiving surface will hide a batch that was already old when somebody else sold it. The last of those four is ours to deal with rather than yours. Stems get cut for the delivery date instead of held over, and a batch that has been on the bench longer than we like goes into work that will be seen close up, not into a bouquet leaving for a villa an hour away. #### What that means for an order here The west coast runs on a 90-180 minute window, and villas, marinas and airport routes are quoted separately. Coffee roses take those distances better than almost anything else on the bench, not because the stems are stronger but because whatever the trip costs them does not show. From May to October the rain sets the pace. The box stays closed until it is inside, evening hill traffic gets extra time in the plan, and a wet outer wrap is changed rather than dried, since water sitting against a pale petal leaves a ring even on this palette. Delivery hours are 9 AM to 10 PM, orders start from 2200 THB, and payment goes by bank card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PromptPay, bank transfer or cash to the courier in baht. Hotels along the coast are the other regular address, and there the advantage turns into a caution. Flowers sent ahead of a guest can sit for a day before anyone walks in, and this is the one colour where that day leaves no trace at all on the head. Long stay guests get told the same thing we tell ourselves at the bench.
